have a play. in any car a good sound system is a must!!! just see wat people advise! its the best way to go.

 

my car is gonna have some 4 inch speakers in the front doors, 6" 9" 's in the back shelf with an amp underneath and possibly a sub in the boot

The ideal place for a bass box or tube is in the boot. It doesn't matter if it is a hatchback, saloon, or coupe, the bass box/tube is purley for bass. If it is enclosed, which it will be in your Capri, the boot will become one big bass box.

 

I am currently planning on a nice system for the Anglia. 12 inch sub in a box, with some hidden 6x9's, and some decent component speakers mounted in my very 70's Pye standup's on my front shelf LOL

 

Not sure on Amp's yet. I will need 2 really... 1 for the box, and one for the 6x9's.

at the moment its got a blupunkt head unit wth 2x4.5" in the front and 2x5.5" in the back.... im running the head unit through a 70s graphic equaliser/amp which iv been told wont be doing the sound quality any good as the head unit is giving out 50w per channel and the equaliser is trying to amplifie it to 50w....

 

 

when i get the car back im going to take the equaliser out and see how it sounds... if no better im going to look into the sub

 

 

how do people wire their amps???

 

if you have a 4 channel amp which most are then u have one channel for each speaker but then what do you do with the sub?

 

one of my mates has 2 amps but it starts getting too expencive then??

if the bass tube i want allready has a built in amp and the head unit is allready suppling close it max input to the speakers do i not need another amp?

would i plug this into the subs own amp?

Can't really help much with the wiring up thing, if it's just fitment of a head unit and speakers I do it myself. Anything more complicated though and I go to an audio shop.

Me (look of astonishment): - You've never heard of 8 tracks?? They're the latest in technology from Japan, if you can't supply and fit one of them then I'm afraid I'll have to go elsewhere.

 

I then slink out of shop before spotty herbert asks somebody older about 8 tracks and realises he's been had

preamp isnt tht just an socket on the bakc of ure head unit thts NOT goign to be aplified by the headunit so that would be where u plug ure amp / amplified sub in ... ??

sounds about right.... just done some reading up

 

 

im thinking fusion 10" bass tube in the boot.... it has its own amplifier onboard and has a dash mounted amplifier controle

 

 

just something to fasten it to now.....

O.K, the pre out on the rear of your head unit supplies a line out to the amplifier. In days of old, you could just wire up your speaker outputs to an amp, but this is quite naughty if it, or a speaker shorts out.

 

Pre amp basically means the sound is already amplified before it goes into the amp. That would be the case with speaker outputs, they are amplified by the head unit before they get amplified again by the amp.

 

The term used for a sub or tube with a built in amp is called 'Active'. So if you see an active sub or active tube, this will mean it has it's own amp.

 

For amp channels, four is the norm. If it is a good amp, it will have a built in crossover and bridge. This means you can power 2 6x9's with 2 channels, and on the other 2 channels, you can bridge i.e. make one, so that this will power your amp or tube.

 

Definatley get rid of that equalizer, your head unit will already have it's own built in equalizer, so what you have been told is correct, it will make the sound out of the speakers sound poo.

 

Another tip, always make sure the speakers are wired up correctly. The wires out of the head unit with the black tracer are commonly Positive not Negative. If you have 1 or 2 wired wrong, the sound will be very tinny with no bass.

i have subs i will say in my limo, but not in my v8 as look all that popin instead, the only reason i have in lime is so i cant hear the kids but its your choice my man you got to have tunes for those long trips
