Daveyboy20 Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Mk5 Cortina failed on countless front bushes and rear void bushes, low headlamp 'image' whatever that is, tyre, ball joints, emmisions and other things i havent picked it up yet its still at the garage cant remember the rest. Anyway, How much is a full set of polybushes and is it relatively easy to do? i remember the capri was a pain in the arse. any advise pretty gutted, im gonna do a feck off burnout out of the garage make myself feel better...
flyingbanana Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 the polybushes can become expensive.......beware therre are a few brands out there which say they are polybushes but they are not......ive got superflex ones my self...but they are a tad high £...once you start getting them all
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 ive just got a mk5 cortina and was thinking of poly bushes looked round it and thought King hell thatll take forever theres bushes every where
Daveyboy20 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Yeah theres loads but i dont see the point in replacing them with shit rubber ones again. how much do you get for weighing a cortina in for scrap these days?
Admin Vista Posted July 2, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 2, 2007 Agreed, the Tina has a lot more bushes than the average OSF, if you can't do them yourself it's gonna cost a pretty penny in labour. Your headlight thing is probably just the beam angle needs adjusting, they could have done that for you in a few minutes, my garage would have done it without asking and probably with no charge. Sometimes it pays to always use the same place so you get to know them.
Daveyboy20 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 no the fella said he couldnbt do the aim bedcause the image was low?? I dont see why i can't do the bushes myself any ideas? what do people think of these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Polyurethane-Bush ... dZViewItem
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 they look the boys im still gonna do mine eventually but the rubber ones arnt knackered yet dont weigh it in
Admin Vista Posted July 2, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 2, 2007 no the fella said he couldnbt do the aim bedcause the image was low?? That might mean the reflectors are tarnished so the beam has poor definition? New headlights needed if that's the case
Cookie Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Scraps at £80 a ton m8 LOL don't weigh her in though
Daveyboy20 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Just spattered next doors house with rubber, thought if he's failed on the tyre when theres still half a mm before the wear indicators i may as well give the tyres reason to be changed. He reckons all in all it shouldnt cost too much but i beg to differ. To be fair its not all the bushes on reading the sheet its an offside ball joint nearside antiroll bar bush and offside void bush. also needs emissions dropping and a tyre (possible 2 now). He reckons you can get halogen bulbs with the old style fitment which would more than likely solve the headlight problem but feck knows where from. I cant remember if thats it but i think its most of it.
Gareth Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 A word of warnin Davey m8; The void bushes can be an absolute pain to do, as they're on toop of the diff housing... I'm not lookin forward to polybushin my Cortina...
Davecara Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 I've got a cortina void bush removal tool if you need it fella! Its basically a big steel cup with a threaded bar through it. I can most prob get you a set of polybushes on the cheap too!
MK5 Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Deflex used to be good for polybushes. Whoever you use check the front anti roll bar - they come in different sizes. if its 18mm you've struck gold!! void bushes - get them done at a garage and save yourself a nightmare. I completely polybushed the front end of a previous Tina. I did it engine out and while I was rebuilding the front suspension. It wasn't to bad to do but some of the bushes took the brute force of 2 people!! check out ebay for headlights - there's usually a few on there tyres should only be about £35 if they're on standard rims
v6pop Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 If the tina only failed on what you say then it sounds pretty good to me as you havnt mentioned any thing about rust holes....youve got to keep it, its far to good to weigh in
Daveyboy20 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 It didnt fail on rust but it does have some, round the filler neck in the boot is just not there anymore and top of the inner wings but its all far enough away from suspension mounts i guess. Wouldnt weigh it in im just a bit gutted like! Im skint!! Cheers for all the advice "I've got a cortina void bush removal tool if you need it fella! Its basically a big steel cup with a threaded bar through it. I can most prob get you a set of polybushes on the cheap too!" Dav3yC, how much could you get me a set of polys for? sounds good bout borrowin the tool for the void bushes! MK5, what are the 18mm ones? are they off a v6 one or something? Ill have to check it in the next couple of days. I would book it in to the garage but i can imagine it'd cost a fortune for that sort of work, just gonna have a crack myself over the next few weeks. Dav3yC, dependin on how much the polys would be i suppose, while i have my optimistic head on if i did all the bushes i could take all the arms and so on off and the diff and get the hammerite and wire brush and spruce it up... Who knows, for now its on my drive though till i can raise the cash! maybe sell some Capri spares ive got a garage full! Cheers for the advice everyone!
