V8ian Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Are the 888R any good, I need a new pair of rear tires, and these sound about what I need, a road legal trackday tire, but essentially I need a pair for good straight line grip. other than drag radials, what are my other options???? Ian
V8ian Posted October 11, 2006 Author Report Posted October 11, 2006 kumho's are superb when warmed up Ive got Kumo Exsomthing on the rear now, not bad but i need somthing better.
V8ian Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 Well Ive opted for the 888s, They seem rather stickey , the proof will be up the pod tomorrow, see if I can improve my 60fts, probably only last the day knowing me
pigeon Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 I had 888rs on my Mk1 Mex. They were mental. Brought my 0-60 down by over a second!! The problem with them for me were that they were too sticky. When taking corners the car would lean over so badly the inside rear would simply spin. Going sideways was hardwork. I even had single leafs. To spin the wheels i had to drop the clutch at 6000rpm. Thats with a roughly 130bhp Pinto. Basically what i'm trying to say is that it took some of the fun out of it. But they did they are supposed to do, but maybe more suited to a high bhp car.
V8ian Posted October 14, 2006 Author Report Posted October 14, 2006 Sounds like my "unbreakable" halfshafts are in for a testing
Coops V8 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 they are meant to be shit hot ian, i want them but no one round here stocks them, or interested in getting them in for me,

Coops V8 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 yeah think starter prob is now sorted mate, along with the running prob i had in the week (split vaccuum hose) It's a family matter why i will not be going mate, BUT i will have one last run this year with you before my car is put away for the winter, i want that 12sec run sooooo bad 12.9999999999 will do like i said mate, run good and beat your PB,
windy Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 I've been running 888's on my car all season. 250 hp escort MK2. I reckon they are OK in the dry & crap in the wet. They wear out very quickly though, did 6 sprint events, i.e. 20 laps of a track, roughly 40 miles before the canvas was showing. I'm comparing them with my regular tyre the Dunlop CR311, my prefernce would be these over the Toyo's anyday, but Toyo is sponsoring the championship so we get em cheap. Also Toyo is a road legal tyre, whereas CR311 is not.
