I can understand why he wants the engine and box out of it but if you've offered to take it off his hands for the same value as the scrap price, then whats his problem???

Source a spare Pinto engine & box, tell the guy you've removed them & will dispose of the remains of the Tina, give him the engine & box you've sourced & say £60 (scrap value) & keep hold of the Tina, whole car running as is.

 

Just need to get the logbook from him though

ive got a pinto here ther 10p toa pound try to get the old tina out of him its worth more than a engine but i do see ware the guy is comeing from but he should sell the remains on which is what i would do but saying that i no bangger boys that would pay £150+ for something like that as would last many meets who nos you might get it good luck with that
