Your obviously very passionate about making good cars look like crap, each to their own...
Pye Man Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Itsa big in the VW seen. Im not a 100% on it, tho I do think it must be a kick in the balls if you get burned off the line by one. The other thing is that a lot of people try to sell rotten cars as rat lookers and bump up the price.

sambo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 No excuse for it really. Unless there is limited funds and they have all gone under the bonnet i.e Mick rogers. even so, I doubt Mick rogers has deliberatly made the car look fooked, it just is. Rat look is ok on VW's but just as much time and effort is put into this image as is making the car all neat and nice. Dont really get it but each to there own (just dont mess up an old ford)
FlashCadillac Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 yeah but on the other hand not everyone want to drive around in something that looks as if its just fallen out of a box off a shelf
sambo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 yeah but on the other hand not everyone want to drive around in something that looks as if its just fallen out of a box off a shelf So are you saying that mine and other restored / modyfied osf's are something that just fell off a shelf?? Far from it!! Just cos something is 'made' to look like its falling apart it doesnt make it unique or interesting imo. I just cant really see the point in it. Deliberatly making your car look shite is just wierd! All this about spray on rust????? Wtf?? "Power not paint" is cool. No doubt about that, but 'making' your car look fooked is just not right.
FlashCadillac Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 nobody out there is trying to make their car look fooked spray on rust doesnt exsist... iv looked for it and its just not out there like you said... power not paint... people dont make them worse but they dont make them look any better either im not on anyones side i like some shiney cars and a nice paint job on some cars and i love the rat look when its a realy sleeper or rough and ready the only bit i hate is when people think just because there car has a fresh coat of paint, some aftermarket pannels and a rebuilt high spec engine they think that just because other people dont they think they can call their cars sh*t and peices of crap.... PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT TASTE GET OVER IT!!! they arnt on hear slagging your car off
sambo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Whadda you mean get over it!!? This whole thread was about 'rat look' cars with people saying how much effort people went to to make the cars look like they do. Apparently its a 'lifestlye' ?? As i said power not paint is cool. And street sleepers are cool. Full stop. I just dont get the point of styling your car like its gonna fall apart.
FlashCadillac Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 I just dont get the point of styling your car like its gonna fall apart. because then you feel even more stupid when you get beaten off the line
Wessie Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 I just dont get the point of styling your car like its gonna fall apart. because then you feel even more stupid when you get beaten off the line judging by the state of that VW with the sills hanging off i doubt it would pull away without falling apart gimme terry davies mk3 anyday POWER NOT PAINT ! dont mind a bit of messy bodywork but SOME of the above pictured cars are a state thats my opinion
Admin Vista Posted July 9, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 9, 2007 I'm not big on the rat look myself, but certainly not because I don't approve. Being a sea going engineer, I see rust as a defect, and a serious one at that. So when I see it on a car I see it as something that has to be fixed at the earliest opportunity or else it'll cost more to put right when it does end up a serious problem. What I will say though is that it's not wise to have a debate with people if it angers you that others don't share your point of view. Opinions are just opinions, it doesn't matter a toss to me what people think of my opinions. I'm even prepared to change them if a valid point of view is made in a debate like this.
over_head_cam Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 My Escort has crap power and poor paint. Does that make it shit? Prob best just to scrap it then. I getting pretty sick and tired of narrow minded people describing others ideas as 'crap' 'shit' 'gash' etc Why can't you just accept that people can do whatever they like with their own cars, and expressing an opinion does NOT have to include insults. Is just accepting, saying something constructive, or just saying nothing too difficult a task?

Is just accepting, saying something constructive, or just saying nothing too difficult a task? totally agree it doesnt upset me having a debate on it... what bothers me is other people slagging other people pride and joys off and trying to use it as an argument now iv just thought about all those max power kids out there with there plastic fantastic who we slag off all the time.... ill forgive you that as the majority of them are first in line to slag your car off first
Admin Vista Posted July 9, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 9, 2007 Personally I don't think anyones slagging anyones car off. If I had such a car and asked someone if he likes the rat look and he says no I wouldn't take that as him slagging off my car, it's his opinion he's entitled to it and if I can't hear his opinion without losing my rag then I probably shouldn't have asked. If however I over heard him saying "rat look is crap, take that piece of crap for instance" (while pointing at my car) then yes that is very much slagging off my car and I would rightly take offence.
sambo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Well, flash cadillac, You say that it makes it more embarrasing to be beaten off the line by a car that looks in a state, but if it took more effort to make it look a state then what the hell does it matter?? And as for slagging off others cars for argument ammo.. your the one who said that you dont want your car to look like its fallen from a shelf! if thats not disrespectfull, i dont know what is. Dont be such a hypocrite.

Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 9, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 9, 2007 Not my thing really the Rat Car ........
Dalek Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Jo that "rat car" is really shit... you are disrespecting me and my lifestyle by posting it on a pubic forum....
Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 9, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 9, 2007 Or it could be a Reliant Robin base which I believe is a CAR
over_head_cam Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Look closely miss bossy boots. The front wheel is from a BIKE And a Reliant isn't a car, it's a 13 amp plug ps
