Dom Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Alright guys I am not happy On september the 1st I applied for the fire service, waited about three weeks and got a reply telling me I wasn't suitable yet. Well i'm 18 so i'm not too young (not that they are allowed to say that anyway), i'm pretty fit and as far as I know perfectly healthy. I didn't even get to the physical tests as they based my suitability on my application. I was then told by an outside source, and I know I can't hold it as totally reliable, that it's because of positive descrimination. I am not happy

Pipster007 Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 Bad luck M8. Chin up and keep on trying
Dom Posted October 12, 2006 Author Report Posted October 12, 2006 I'm going to send in the exact same application but put myself down as asian or something else and see what happens. If I get a different response, i'm going to the news rags . It might sound like i'm being devious or sneaky but i'm not being funny, it is what I wanted to do for a career and i'm not even being given a fair chance. The police even admitted it and they got some stick.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 There was something in the paper about a guy who applied for the police and didn't get in because of positive discrimination. He found out though another source that they were applying to fill their quota of asian police, but obviously couldn't put that on the advert. Quotas and targets for things like this p*ss me off. It shouldn't matter what colour someone is, they should be judged on their own merits.
looney_mom Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I know how you feel m8. My older brother is in the Fire Service and it took him over five years and god knows how many applications before he got accepted. He didnt just apply to our local either (Hampshire) he tried all the neighbouring forces and then went further afield. Eventually he ended up being accepted by Surrey and working in outer London! You're bang on. The system sucks
Mr.Sumo Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Sounds about right mate, pathetic situation is'nt it sorry to hear that, If your name was ramma wanna blowupbritian khan you would be straight to top of list, sad but true you just hit the nail straight on the head mate ..... sums this country up of ours now Example being forms you have to fill in for jobs etc....anyone else noticed that they have every colour / creed / nationality on them.... but never ENGLISH I filled in one this week and put English ( COS I AM ) and was told in no uncertain terms that " doesn"t exist Apparently i"m British / other... makes me fookin mad ....mini rant over
RFChris Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Go britain......... I say you should apply again Dom. Then do just that, the media will go nuts over it. There ain't enough people who are keen to get these jobs (police, ambulance, fire) and as such, the ones that do should be helped along the way. Keep trying mate. You'll get there in the end
Hilux Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 in this pathetic politically correct world we live in, the powers that be just cant see that by trying not to be racist or discriminative, they actually are the worst culprits of it! check out this anti-political correctness website its excellent http://www.capc.co.uk/ the latest news page has stuff on positive discrimination, which incedentally is legalised racism!!
