a wet road would help  maybe a bit of clutch kick to give the rears a sudden jolt? watch out though as that is a bit of a transmission killer! (i do it though  )

if i can get a 2.0 volvo 240 to kick out then youll have no worries in a capri!

I don't think getting it to kick out is the problem its holding it sideways!

I've only ever had 1600's rwds & the only way to drift them was in the wet! They'd kick out all day in the dry but to hold it in a slide it had to be wet - but then I can't even do a proper burnout!

Wet roads are the best bet. It's too hard in the dry with your inside wheel spinning like mad in mid air and the outside wheel still gripping. :(

I dont recomend practising on the road  but in the wet a 1600 pinto anything is driftable. for practising sake, drive in 2nd at about 2500rpm ish and star to turn the front wheels, when the wheel (make sure it doesnt understeer or when you boot it it'll just get worse) you should feel (in the wet) your steering go all light, thats pretty much the optimum time to put your foot down to initially kick the back end out, now you need big enough balls to keep it there a bit untill it feels like it might wanna go to far and then let off a bit, but not too much as it'll just pull back in, thats the trick - balance the back end with your right foot and use the steering as well to keep it out. Obviously in a carpark theres not much to hit so your probs best off there for a bit! 8)

I struggle to get the back to even step out in the dry, however in the wet it is comedy!

Winter is coming so hopefully a few wet roads to play with.

if you dont like ure clutch do as daveyboy said but instead of just booting it dip the clutch boot it and dump it while going round a corner the "snap" should get it going easier

just takes practice - I did this in the dry with looney mums old capri - me and russboy went to pick it up and I had never driven a capri up untill that point - the first round about i came accross I had it broadside 3 times around .... in the dry.

Its all about small steering wheel movements mate - keep your toes consistent - A clutch snap certainly helps although beware that it can be a bit of a killer

Im loving this place even more, first i see an article in classic ford where his mk1 has a welded diff now people are asking how to drift, on most other forums you normally get abuse thrown at you. With an open diff holding the drift is a lot harder, i ran a welded diff on my ex daily no problem. You realy will struggle to hold a drift in the dry with an open diff, in the wet it makes it alot easier specially with like 60psi in the tyres. But yeah a decent shimmed up lsd or a plain old simple welder is the ansewr if your realy into drifting.

go as fast as you can say round a roundabout in 2nd gear, turn so that the front is just about still gripping and floor it :D

in the wet i find i have to dip the clutch slightly to get the back out before the front decides to slide out.

i find it no problem to drift with a open diff wet or dry, but u got to be brave about it, i find that in the dry its more controlable where as in the rain, it sometimes can just go before you get a chance to do anything!

i went straight from a nackered 1600 pinto to a 2.1 modded pinto, pissin in the rain down a b road, went round a bend at about 30-40 dipped the clutch heavily and was severly shocked after i was facing the wrong way within about half a second! i tried again bien a bit more careful and aware of what was going to happen and hey it worked!

do any of you lot with open diffs manage to hold it on FULL opposite lock in the wet without spinning or stopping facing the kurb? i can go very sideways and hold it but rarely have to use full lock, normally half a turn and some throttle control does the job...

keep your foot planted as you come out of it :D

good advice was working for a good while their . this morning bout 830 i was mid sideways and spun out ended on concrete enbankment and have rippedd exhaust compleely off lol . i wouldnt advise drifting while still prety much sleeping lol

ive spun it out a good few times aswell, dont worry about it, you learn from your mistakes, ive never hit anything while spinning out tho, just almost gone up the middle of one or 2 roundabouts.

i once spun on a roundabout and a lorry came flying across as i was turning back round just missed me!

I agree normally people slag ya off for being a nutter but lets face it we all do it

I love drifting my mk2

I've got a 2lt pinto and have welded my diff awesome in the dry and f**king scary in the wet

Like whats bin said before the key is to use a little steerin as possible so not to kick back on yaself and constant throttle

If ya struggle to get it to whip round try a bit of handbrake the key is to get both tyres to let go...

I ain't a pro just my opinion people's...

haha why have i never commented on this!!!!

basically, get a big gravel carpark, drive your car round and circles in 1st at a steady 5-10mph, n slowley increase it until the front understeers

right... remember that point,

now,

do the same again, just before that point, FLOOR IT,

then instantl LET OFF FULLY,

then instantly floor it again, (the back end should kick out here)

then instantly come back to half throttle ish

(this should take a matter of seconds)

then on half throttle ish get a feel of how much power is needed to keep it going around and around (it is possible with an open diff!)

now, same again in 2nd... then 3rd

now... to a wet road, same again, try in 1st then 2nd etc

then dry roads.... you'll need an LSD basically, or very crap tyres!

also... when in the wet, give it some good speed around a roundabout.

and do the same thing (2nd gear, floor it, nothing, floor it, (at this point you should be sideways) then control with the throttle.

but... while you are doing this (this is where it gets advanced)

go round a roundabout, turning to the right of course

when you let off, flick the steering to the left,

then instantly flick the steering to the right (as you are flooring it again)

and this should be enough to get the back end out.

and again, control with the throttle.

now this is the last one ive been doing, practiced at silverstone with this one (legal) ;)

this one is really really hard and very rarely works, but when it does its "propper" if you know what i mean

same again, get your grip levels see when the car understeers.

but here, we have a left hand corner (90degrees or so sharp)

so, we flick the steering to the right,

then the left and floor it.

now... control it until the drift is starting to end

(you should be halfway round the corner by now)

now, clutch down, into 3rd (one gear up) and floor it before you drop the clutch, then release.

this should bring power on both wheels and kick the back end that extra bit. to bring you drifting round the rest of the corner,

from there its power-oversteer and try to stop the back end flicking out the wrong way on the exit of the corner, when you're trying to streighten up because by this time you'll be doing about 40-50mph!!!!

:) write it down if you want, fun

or facing the wrong direction looking like a plonker :D

PMSL funny stuff, i had no interior in mine and nothing weighing the back down atall, cheapo P/W's on the back and a wet roundabout, if i gave it good speed round a roundabout and touched the throttle it would be fun just trying to keep the thing straight! :D

if i dropped the clutch in the wet and gave it some beans, it would be sideways all the way through 3rd gear on a straight road!

oh and one last thing, fair play to anyone out there that does this, its good fun, i even got pulled over by police once on an industrial estate late at night, he saw me drifting, and he loved it so he let me carry on

this is what owning an OSF is all about

in the dry its nto good unless you end up with a 2.8i diff and a shit load of torque but in the wet its piss easy, my engines slighty worn and dying a slow death but it still loves to get it sideways at the smallest of roundabouts i just turn let it go light a bit.....hit the gas in first gear and let her slide and then when i want to come out of it i dip the clutch in then get it straight and pootle along again at 25 down the street

not so good when your boss is behind you and he tries to copy in his L200 though, you die of laughter :lol:

haha my mates just found a video on his phone of when i had my 1.6 pinto in my mk3 i done a burnout outside his house just before it went bang...

when i find a way of getting it off my phone and onto here i will put it on for a laugh, not drifting but just as fun :ykt::mrgreen:
