That silencer is close mate, and when your accelerating, the exhaust system will move due to the engine moving which is why there is no noise. But, when you are on over-run, the exhaust system will come to rest and if there are any bumps in the road, your engine will get shocked from the rest of the drivetrain, which will cause the exhaust to jolt around.

Your prop will have a centre bearing which is attached to the floorpan, so if something is hitting the prop, it will sound like it is hitting the floor. Failing that, have you checked your front suspension bushes and ball joints??? Capri's suffer with bush failiure due to the weight on the front end. The best way to check the TCA bushes is by using a pry-bar or similar long lever, have the car on the floor, and give everything a good wiggle. There will be play, but there shouldn't be masses.

For ball joints, lift a side of the vehicle, grab the road wheel top and bottom, and try to pull the bottom of the wheel out while pushing in on the top. Best to have another pair of hands or eyes as you wont see anything while getting jiggy with your wheels.:lol:

I would think it's that silencer though mate... have a fiddle and get it as far away as possible.

Let me know how you get on mate... good luck :D

that sounds like mine does, i've called mine "exhaust slap" cos the exhaust's got the wrong rubber and it hits the bottom of the car on over-run.

it might not be your problem, but that's what mine does

just found the probit was exhaust hitting the seat belt bolt that comethrough the floor pan.

cheers jim

Was just about to say that as thats what i had in my capri... had it for about 6 months before i found what it was

as id put a straight through cherry bomb on it instead of the stagerd box the exhaust was sat at a different angle to still meet the hangers

whils the car was still it cleard eveything but when i went round corners or at certain speeds it knocked on the seetbelt anchoing bolt that sticks through the floor about 25mm

out came the hack saw... all is good now! :D
