im thinking about living and working in australia, but i have no work experience in my field (mechanical engineering) as ive only just gotten my degree.

ive looked into it abit and it seems i need more points/ credits to move out there (by getting in experience) i did register with a company that helps people move out there, but they now want 150 quid to even tell me if they can help! i dont have that money to find out il have to wait for a couple of years.

there must be a way of doing it so i can get out there now?

has anyone else done this or looked into doing it?

any thoughts or info greatfully received!

thanks.

What area did you want to go into? I've got the same degree n was working as a bike mechanic for 3 years and was looking for a while to go over there and mechanics are wanted everywhere but then its not the best use of your degree. My step brothers out there he kinda just went over there with a work permit found himself a job n kinda wormed his way in but he drives buses/trucks.

got a friend thats looking to go to NZ he went there on a holiday n while he was there handed out his CV n talked to people. Your best bet would be to save some money together n get a year working permit, before you go research places, e-mail, aply for jobs etc an english engineering degree is spose to be sort after but it'll still be a hard slog to get somthing as you can only stay in a job for 3months at a time on a workin visa but you'll also beable to see if you actually like living over there.

If your lucky a company will offer you a contract for a year or 2 when your looking, but as you say no experiance doesn't help. Once you've done all that then it'd be time to start aplying to emigrate so you've got somthing to actually go to.

Will kinda be a long thing n there are other ways these are just the ways i know people have done.

Hope this helps a little bit ozz is a great place i would love to go back!!

I've got less than a month to go before i go traveling :D

i'm on a work visa, which allows you to work for a single employer for up to six months, then you have to move on. if you work for mopre than three months with any one employer then they can sponsor and recommend you etc etc, and you can get a green card that way

sorry to be so brief, but i'll explain in more detail later on today or tomorrow if your interested. :)

no i havent got a job lined up. i just really want to travel and will bum a few jobs when the cash is getting low. i'm doing the whole thing on a shoestring though. the visa is easy.. sort of  . www.immi.gov.au will sort you out, i did mine online i think it cost £80. i printed the form out though, and read it backwards for about a week, its not as scary as it first seems. my ticket is an open return valid for a year, so i can come home free when i run out of money, if i manage to last a year then i come home then. it costs about £50 gbp to change the date. i havent really looked too much into jobs over there tbh as i'm not intending to stay there i just want to have a look around so to speak. i've got a place lined up on a ranch though and i sorted that months ago, basically you get paid rubbish money, about 30 dollars a week which is about a tenner but you get free board and food , and get to heard sheep on quad bikes!!!:lol: . that sall the planning i've done on the job front, hopefully i'll be able to grab some bar work.

i'll still sort out some more info if you want to go this sort of route, but if you were looking to move there permantly i think i've given all the help i can, i've got a ton of travel contacts though, cheap hostels and people that'll sort you out as soon as you land etc etc.
