g-man Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 i'v got a 2lt pinto and wondering on what modz to i can do to the engine because 2 of my mate 1 has a vauxhall with a redtop engine in and is running 157 bhp standed and other mate has an RS turbo and recons he will be getting it to about 200ish bhp. And i dont want to get left behind at santapod when we have a race so what can i do. The thing is not got alot of pennys at the moment Cheers
Admin Vista Posted July 29, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 29, 2007 You can do lots to a pinto and will certainly be able to keep up with those two outputs. Trouble is it all costs, and to get a 200bhp pinto costs quite a lot. The bottom end is pretty strong in stock trim with the exception of the rod bolts, if you can get a set of later injection rods while you're changing the rod bolts, that's worth doing too. The other bottom end change to make is a high pressure oil pump. Initial power improvements from a pinto all lie in the right head and carburation set up, and I'd think about this sort of list: -. Ported and flowed head with bronze valve guides Big valves Camshaft selection Vernier pulley Electronic ignition Twin carbs (at least 45) Good exhaust system (including manifold) You then move onto displacement increases from reboring, or reboring and stroking.
LEONMEX Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 With drag racing in mind its about how you can get the power down aswell,i guess the rs turbo & redtop xe are both in fwd cars?? If so you'll have an advantage over them to start with, mines only 170bhp & has beaten a few cars with alot more power than mine. Plus you'll look twice as good going down the strip

over_head_cam Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 Lightness and grip will help to make up for slightly less power
Fiesta Steve Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 A 150 bhp naturally aspirated RWD car should piss all over a 200 bhp turbo charged FWD car at the Pod.
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Lightness and grip will help to make up for slightly less power Yes if moneys tight then leave the engine alone but take all the other bits off the car and buy 2 hoosiers and a 4:4 diff instead Buy a secondhand nitrious kit and spray in 50 bhp and they're need a supercar to keep up !!!!!!!!
g-man Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 nice 1 thanks 4 the advice iv got a set of twin 40's dellortoe's in the garage did have them on but petrol would just leak out the it would back fire and everything would be on fire . Got a twin choke weber on at the min. When i get the car back in the garage will get the engine out and get it cleaned up and sorted
Copey Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 fast road cam, 4 branch manifold, good exhaust and a 38DGAS carb fron the 3.0 will outrun a 2.8i
g-man Posted August 7, 2007 Author Report Posted August 7, 2007 Twin 40 dellortoe's Or a twin choke weber 4 my pinto got both or should i look 4 some thing else
LEONMEX Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 I ran my pinto on a 38dgas from a 3.0 capri & it went really well, not as good as with the 45's but was no better on petrol than with the 45's.
