will i actually die if i spray this stuff in my open garage with a decent resporator on (not air fed though). I have sprayed up my engine bay in celulose which looks pretty decent but dont provide the resistance to oil etc like the rest of the paint, also i cant seem to get that really deep shine like you get with 2 pack.

hope its not a dumb question but you know what all these health warnings are like these days, the paint shop seemed happy to supply it and said *you'll be ok mate* but then again they would wouldnt they!

it's a prolonged exposure thing as i understand it, so it won't kill you straight off unless you get a big dose (basically along the lines of sniffing glue!).....

definitely need an air fed mask (the fumes are the issue, so you need a higher pressure than that outside the mask to keep it out).

also there should be no skin exposed, so full mask and body suit, all gimped up!

Very bad.

Talk to an expert, not us mate. No really

There are untold threads about this on forums everywhere and there does not seem to be a definitive answer. I'd talk to the paint people or the mask manufacturers first. there are so many false rumours and bad advice out there. You can't be flippant with your health

this is a very difficult one i would say doing it once with a good fly mask isnt going to kill you the chances are next to none . but it is very dangerous stuff and if you do it all day everyday i would advise wearing air fed mask and suits .

a couple of fellas i work with paint in a oven (enclosed space ) with fook all i dont advise that but what im saying is there not dead and they av been doing it for years . i think they will pay the price in years to come hense why i wear a mask .

there thing is some people will smoke for years and live till there 80 some will smoke and die at 30 .

the ones that die at 30 are probably the ones that smoke in the booth

christ!! thats an old thought. i can vaguely remember that, at my uncles garage, sean the bodywork guy mixing the paint then just going for it, no mask or protective clothes, spraying a car with a fag hanging out of his mouth  . always turned out good though!

i recon with a mask and have the doors open you will probably be alright just to do a car

i thinks its dangerous if your spraying every day sort of thing

thats when you need a air fed mask and so on

i spray every day with a little cartridge mask but using water based paint

and lechler hs clear coat laquer

so not to bad for me

you wont die unless its a regular thing or re-create a gas chamber in an unvented space.

its made me a bit chesty sometimes so its prob no good for you.

i would wear a proper spraying mask not a flimsy dust one, if your worried about it.

i try to do it outside when possible, hold your breath spray, get away from it and then breath. its not ideal but better than getting ill

i look at it this way: it cant be any worse than these people sucking down 20+ fags a day can it?

There is a chemical within 2K (Two Pack) paint that is highly toxic... can't remember what it is called now. I was having a conversation with a mate of mine who owns a boat, and it turns out that sprayable boat paint is actually 2K, but it has this chemical removed so it doesn't kill fishies etc. But they print Marine Paint on the tin instead of 2K so they can charge triple the price.

This said mate of mine ended up in hospital years ago... and nearly died, because his mate didn't clean out his respirator gear (he used to paint cars for a living in a booth).

I have sprayed several times in the open air, and well ventilated garages... it isn't a problem. But, you have to use your own judgment. If it is getting to much... walk away and wait for the spray to disperse, DO NOT stay in there choking on it.

BTW, I always wear a mask, and it isn't until you take it off, you realise how well it has done it's job. The mask that started as white in colour, ends up the colour your spraying all around the areas that you breath.

Hope this helps :D

Isocyanide m8, it causes brain damage

That may explain what I'm about to tell you

I've been spraying for quite a few years now and although I use air fed visors etc in a proper booth, I will admit that when I'm painting that spoiler for a m8 or a bike tank or whatever I cant be bothered with all the equipment and just use Ricks 'hold your breath' method, and I'm not dead yet.

Even when I do use the mask, I'll lift it to have a proper look at the finish and usally get a lung full of overspray. And thats on a daily basis.

But like I said m8, it can cause brain damage, so your know the score. Do the right thing
