Once id worked out what the first bit of the site wibbled on about it all made perfect sense

If I understand it right then the last two letters of the three is the location identifier.

So mine came from Bournemouth I think?

So at least I know the first owner was probably a careful old man who never went above 25mph

The Cortina came from Eastbourne originally, and yes it was a 'retirement' car - did 20,000 miles between 1980 and 1992

The Escort is Portsmouth registered but the original owners lived in Swanage - was witht he same family until I got my greasy mitts on it :D

From what I can understand of my link, the location isnt precise, its the location of the DVLA office that the car was first registered at. To use a local (to me) example, the car could have been bought from a dealer in Gosport or Fareham. But because Portsmouth is the nearest DVLA LO thats what the plate traces back too.

I THINK

That said, FOE would seem to be birmingham, which is obviously not very local to Burtons so it could all be bunkum :?
