Guest MK1gaz Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Gaz is just jelous cos his aint a rs,he makes excuses up because he drives the poor mans version Would be a differant story if his was a rs I Sold my RS2000's , mexicos and RS1600 off as they've got nothing worth using i would have just chucked 99% of the bits in the skip !!!!!!!! Yours aint a mexico no more anyway is it , who's gonna buy yours if they've got their heart set on a mexico model ? You should have flogged it and bought a proper 1100 cos then you can do what you like with one
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 I'd like to know where you get cheap tin RS wings? Also the RS has 9 inch rear drums. Not too mention discs and calipers up front. There are tons of differences between a propper RS and a base model. The RS has a tuned engine. The RS has strengthening parts fitted. Anti tramp bars. It has a rev counter and oil pressure guage fitted as standard. Bucket seats. Black headlining. Quarter bumpers. RS Alloys or steels, oh and a chassis plate with the letters A V and O on it. If you owned one you might understand how people feel when you rubbish thier cars. I'm not bothered of course because I know that you cant help your condition but not everyone knows you like I do. Listen mate i've had tons of them , all the bits of trim etc are always fooooooked anyway and the engines are gutless and worth £50 so no point having one anymore unless doing rs polishing concours stuff which requires a standard spec car (shit slow and boring) . The only difference after you've chucked out the £50 engine and the rotten old interior are a few spot welded bits of tin which don't do much and will be rotten anyway . Sad but true
RETRO_AL Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Saying a mexico aint realy a rs,is like saying a lotus carlton is just another shitty carlton without the engine its like saying a saff cosworth is only a shitty seirra without the engine Its the little extras that make these cars differant, just like the mexico is differant to the standard models,it may only but stut tops, stone gaurds brakes and trim, and all the other little extra strenthing bits that make it differrant but these do count So your theory is out the window im am afraid gaz And yes mine may aswell have being a 1.1 pop as theres nothing left of the mexico bits, but it was my choice
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Yes there's lots of little things that's different on a mexico compared to an 1100 model but once stripped ready for a high performance conversion what bits do you actually want ? NOTHING , as seen on your car . It's a waste of money paying extra for a mexico if going this route , if i'd kept one of mine then i would have chucked all the bits away as they were all scrap anyway . Your cars still worth/drives the same weither it's a mexico or not so best leave them to the RS polishers who don't want to modify them too much
tim Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 gaz am so glad there isnt more people like you out there cause you dont help the classic ford scene with your stupid posts, this thread is about stickers on cars and you have turned it in2 a big RS hater thread,i am happy to say i own a mk1 mexico and member of the avo club and to brake your sterotype of a avo owner,my car is used every weekend, will be modfied over the winter
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Tim i was in the A.V.O owners club when you was going to playschool . My mates are in it still and they like polishing standardish mexicos etc so fare play to them . I aways give them a wave as i blast past sideways !!!!!!!!
tim Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 not seen you blast past me,surely its a good thing that some1 of my age is still intrested in these cars and makin them live on for more to see
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Tim i'm glad you like them , i like them as well , i've had lots of them and my mates have got still them so we're all happy then . When i was younger i thought that RS's were the best thing and nothing else would do but as you get older you realise that it doesn't matter , all that matters is rust
jimmyesh Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 This thread's gone a bit mental hasn't it!? I bought my MK1 1100L (has 2.0 pinto on 40's under the bonnet though) as it is now with the white RS2000 stripes on the car, to be honest I wouldn't have fitted them myself as the car hasn't even got "AVO" front wings on it yet! My future plans are to go with Mexico stripes as I prefer them. I think there's NOTHING wrong with putting the stripes on a non-RS model myself as even base-model 2-door cars are so old, rare and valuable now -not to mention the fact that most on the road have vastly superior running gear in them to what they would have had in the 70's - they've more than earned the rights to wear the stripes! The only people who get hacked off about it are old fuddy-duddies who have genuine AVO cars that get trailered to a few shows in the summer then kept under a dust sheet the rest of the year. - They don't like other people with "lesser", cheaper escorts having cars that look as good as theirs and actually get used on the road and track! - They probably see the odd mk1 escy on the motorway while they're driving their people carrier with the family in and say "yeah but that one's not genuine like mine"! TBH, most AVO Escorts in half decent condition are way out of the average bloke's reach nowadays so the kind of people that will pay upwards of £10k for an escort mk1 isn't your average young working-class fella... Or perhaps he is but has been on the phone to one of those irritating loan companies you see on the telly and got it on the never-never!

I would be above average too if it weren't for my 2 kids and mortgage/ life in general soaking up any would-be Escort funds I love seeing the original AVO cars at shows in their original form and it's good that people are looking after them for future generations to see (assuming they don't have to be destroyed for not being "green" enough by some leftie-liberal tosspot! The things I've got planned for my own MK1 (zetec turbo etc) would be just criminal to do to a genuine AVO mk1 but I do agree with Gaz in one respect that it's only a few plates of metal that separate a "normal" 2-door shell from an AVO one - oh and a few quid too!

Jimmy . I'd rather buy a mint 1100 shell for £2500 than a mint type 49 shell for £8000 then just stick £50 tramp bar brackets on the 1100 as you don't need the other bits
Toby Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Things can be just as annoying when people think your cars more than it is. I am always getting asked if my GREEN Cortina is a Lotus. Does it look white with a green stripe? When I say no they go - oh ! and loose all interest. Do what you like to your car as long as its period and tastefull!

Admin Vista Posted September 18, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 18, 2007 not seen you blast past me,surely its a good thing that some1 of my age is still intrested in these cars and makin them live on for more to see Gaz hasn't blasted past anyone in a long time as his 2 month project has grown arms and legs and looks like being a 2 year project. And guess what? At the end of it he'll still have to work pretty hard to blast past my genuine RS Back to topic matter. I like the RS and Mex stripe package and think they do exactly what they were meant too, that being drawing attention to an outstanding hot saloon of the day and make it stand out from the normal models in the range. IMHO an unstriped RS looks kind of naked. The same effect looks just as good on a non RS model and I have no issues about look alikes or "is it a real RS?" type questions. Yes mine is but it wouldn't bother me to be asked that if it wasn't.

I should blast past your RS from the word go very easy ( if it is a proper Rs2000 and not an 1100 with top plates and the log book ) so i'll give you a wave and try not to leave too much rubber over your avo owners club skicker !!!!!!!!
Posse Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Gaz i can't wait when your out and about And not in that brake my windows taxi

Yes it is a proper RS but one with attitude. Bring it on, pass me you may, but blast past me with ease you will definitely not.
