Morley Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I was just after the opinions of people... My question is, what do you think of replicas? Say a base model Mk1 Escort with a pinto badged and stickered to look like an RS or a Mexico? Is it cool or not cool? There is no right or wrong answer, just keen to know what people think...
GJUK Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I dont think there is anything wrong with it. As long as you have the running gear to back it up. I'd be worried if someone had a mk2 escort 4 door, 1.1 pop with RS2000 stripes - thats silly. If you've got a 2/4 door with the right running gear then yeh. why not. I'm going to be putting RS2k stripes on mine when the front ends been sorted out Jon
baz105e Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 as far as i'm aware people have been doing it since day 1 so go for it
mk1mexico Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 It doesnt bother me, mines a base model but with decent running gear and a mexico stripe kit purely because i like them
tim Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 as long as its similar spec or above then yea but no to mex stripes on a 1100 base
Copey Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 as said above if you got the engine and speed to back it up then its perfectly fine
Messenjah Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 its fine by me ! its a cool look and its their car ! also why does it matter what engine its got in it i do agree that sometimes cars can be all show and no go but some of us are young and cant afford the insurance on a modified / fast car so why should we not be allowed to have a rep if thats the look we want ? Some King kool cars still have the original engines in and it could be argued that they are a bit of all sow no go but i dont see the harm in it !
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 13, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 13, 2007 I think it's fine As long as it is done well then why not Not everyone can afford the real deal so a replica comes a close second
MightySprocket Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I like the RS 2k stripes, but I dont want it to be a replica so maybe a different colour than standard
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 13, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 13, 2007 as long as its similar spec or above then yea but no to mex stripes on a 1100 base Snob
mk2escortmad Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 well, i have a 1300 auto at mo (cuz im disabled) and will prob never be able to drive a 'REAL' RS2000. oh and its a 4-door as well i hope in time to put a 2000 pinto in her
Jay_harrier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I'd say there's nothing wrong with doing it regardless of the spec of the car, some people like the look but can't find/afford the real deal or the nippers can't insure something with all the bells and whistles. If you were to try and pass it off & blag people as the real McCoy then that's a different story. I'm thinking of striping mine as an RS1800, it isn't but I like the look - the die hards may moan but it's not their business
bronze4door Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 does not bother me but i personaly would not do it
johnny_h Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I had a daytona yellow 1100 with mex stripes and thought it was cool but now I own a real one I don't like seeing replica's. Most of them I have seen lately would blow my car out of the water performance wise and also in attention to detail. Classic example is the le mans green escort ULX, this car looks the nuts to me, it's perfect, not sure the guys name that owns it. He is toying with the idea of mex stripes. Having said all that, if I had a base model I would probably stripe it up
dssean Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i'm having this dilema myself . got a green mk1 and the three colours i want are green matt black and chrome. like big baz's beauty, but i dont know ifi should put rs2000 stripe on or not [/img]
escamino Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 You should be able to put on your car what you like, as long as you don't pass it off as the real deal when you sell it.
Posse Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Put what ever stripes you want on like baz said its your car who cares what all the anals say as long as you like it
BaileyMex Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I think its perfectly fine As long as you dont stripe it up to look like a RS/Mex etc and then go round saying it is when it aint! There are tonnes of cars about that are NON RS/Mex's etc that look the tits, so what I'm saying is that it dont have to me a Mex/Rs to still be cool
BaileyMex Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 It's more wrong than Janet Street Porter in Lingerie Where do you think of these examples mate? stay off the funny fags
bomber1 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 as the rest have said do it if u want but dont try n sell it as the real deal
MEXY867M Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Its what you want mate at the end of the day as long as you like it the rest will follow.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 nothing wrong with a lookalike also i dont think it matters if you have the running gear to match whats wrong with a nice looking mexico or rs lookalike running a 1300 xflow ive seen plenty about
Tom Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i remember a magazine editor asking me that before . .
marky4 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 got no probs with that at all at the end of the day it's your car so do what you want to it i think the mex and rs stripes really make some cars
