dragaddict Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 give the engine a compression test, maybe the gasket is bye bye
mk2escortmad Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 i really hope the hg hasnt gone
Josh_gsy Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 you sure there isnt a blockage or the new thermostat works? test it by putting it in boiling water and see if it opens?!
Jay_harrier Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Have you flushed the radiator too? try reverse flushing the system as well. If the top rad hose gets hot then your thermostat is probably ok
GT_Jim Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 there could also be a vapor block, fill it up with water and run it for a few mins and it sholud force out any water in the system
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 as all above really flush reverse flush check head (compresion test) thermostat water pump it wont matter that your not running a heater matrix i ran one without a heater for ages and it was fine
mk2escortmad Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 cheeRS for the advice guys, could i jst run it without a thermostat?
Twinkle Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 cheeRS for the advice guys, could i jst run it without a thermostat? you could but all that would do is hide the problem
bomber1 Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 cheeRS for the advice guys, could i jst run it without a thermostat? you could but all that would do is hide the problem i run my mk2 with out a stat for a month untill i had the head gasket done. is it throwing water out the overflow? also is the whole rad getting hot? has the water gone rusty a second time?
mk2escortmad Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 the water was rusty but i havent checket it again yet
bomber1 Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 mine was rusty run it for 4months b4 i got new hoses etc. it would get hot but not to bad. then i used some of my mates central heating cleaner acid stuff. must of cleaned the rust out of the head gasket where it was blown cos after that it was blowing water out the overflow and getting hot in ten or so minutes the gasket had blowen between no3 cylinder and the water route
oliwally Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 is it boiling up or the guage getting hot? could just be a duff sender?
joker Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 IF YOU HAVE A TERMOSTAT SEND IT TO ME I WILL EAT IT TROW AWAY TERMOSTATS I HATE THEM.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 what does it mean if the waters rusty?????????? my mates mini has the same problem boilsa over sometimes but the compression test results are good and equal
Admin Vista Posted October 10, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 10, 2007 IF YOU HAVE A TERMOSTAT SEND IT TO ME I WILL EAT IT TROW AWAY TERMOSTATS I HATE THEM. I don't expect you really need them in Malta. Over here however it's a little colder in Winter and without a thermostat your engine wouldn't get up to proper operating temperature.
oliwally Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 what does it mean if the waters rusty?????????? my mates mini has the same problem boilsa over sometimes but the compression test results are good and equal That the inside of your engines rusty, not had any A/F for a long time. All those lil bits of corrosion floating around your cooling system. As everyone has said, spend the afternoon flushing your engine back and forth, though all hoses, etc till you get clean water. take ONE hose off and block the waters escape and get some pressure built up and the let it go. Should see some nasty colours come out of the rad/engine Also drill 2 2mm holes in the thermostat to help get rid of any air locks that could get trapped behind it. Also what grade oil you using? when i ran my 2L capri on 10/30 temp gauge was always on or near the red, switched to 20/50 and it never went past 3/4
mk2escortmad Posted October 10, 2007 Author Report Posted October 10, 2007 cheeRS for the advice guys, i done wat joker said and it seems to be running fine now by not overheating quick, as to it maybe a dodgey sender i could be that too but the water seems to disappear but the rad cap not hot very weird car
oliwally Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 are you filling the water to the neck of the cap? thats too much water you need at least 1/2" below the neck
