as all above really flush reverse flush check head (compresion test) thermostat water pump

it wont matter that your not running a heater matrix i ran one without a heater for ages and it was fine

cheeRS for the advice guys, could i jst run it without a thermostat?

you could but all that would do is hide the problem

i run my mk2 with out a stat for a month untill i had the head gasket done.

is it throwing water out the overflow? also is the whole rad getting hot? has the water gone rusty a second time?

mine was rusty run it for 4months b4 i got new hoses etc. it would get hot but not to bad. then i used some of my mates central heating cleaner acid stuff. must of cleaned the rust out of the head gasket where it was blown cos after that it was blowing water out the overflow and getting hot in ten or so minutes  the gasket had blowen between no3 cylinder and the water route

IF YOU HAVE A TERMOSTAT SEND IT TO ME I WILL EAT IT TROW AWAY TERMOSTATS I HATE THEM.:evil:

 I don't expect you really need them in Malta. Over here however it's a little colder in Winter and without a thermostat your engine wouldn't get up to proper operating temperature.

That the inside of your engines rusty, not had any A/F for a long time.

All those lil bits of corrosion floating around your cooling system.

As everyone has said, spend the afternoon flushing your engine back and forth, though all hoses, etc till you get clean water.

take ONE hose off and block the waters escape and get some pressure built up and the let it go.

Should see some nasty colours come out of the rad/engine

Also drill 2 2mm holes in the thermostat to help get rid of any air locks that could get trapped behind it.

Also what grade oil you using? when i ran my 2L capri on 10/30 temp gauge was always on or near the red, switched to 20/50 and it never went past 3/4
