madmk1escort2.1rally Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 O.K I HAVE A LATE 1972 RS2000 MK1 ON A K PLATE (IT SAY'S THIS ON THE LOG BOOK ) AND IT WAS A LHD. I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING A 2.1 PINTO AND AM NOW TOYING WITH THE IDEA OF RUNNING A COZZY LUMP. I KNOW THE COZZY WAS BASED ON A 205 BLOCK PINTO BUT THE QUESTION IS WILL A COZZY HEAD BOLT STRIGHT ON OR DO I HAVE TO MODD THE BLOCK IN ANY WAY ???????????????
dragaddict Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 m8 it just bolds on,but it depends what your going to do
Mr Sam Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 if your going turbo cossie the compression ratio will be all wrong wont it still theres nowt wrong with an NA cossie
Admin Vista Posted October 14, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 14, 2007 And if you're going NA cossie then the cams and ports will be all wrong. So the answer is both yes and no Yes it'll bolt straight on, but no it won't work very well (if at all). In short, the bottom end will need modifcation to lower the compression ratio if you're going for a turbo set up, and the head will need modification if you're going naturally aspirated.
dragaddict Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 thats right m8 like vista said it depends on what you want to do
puddy Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 They look good though Cam timing looks a bit iffy on the top one though Go turbo if you are gonna do it puddy
texr2000 Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 They look good though Cam timing looks a bit iffy on the top one though Go turbo if you are gonna do it puddy As nice a N/A ones look, think i would have to go Turbo just for the KICK
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 You can fit a turbo but most don't go any better than the ones without them
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 A decent turbo engine will cost about the same as a decent N.A. one . Then the N.A. won't need the bodyshell uprated like a decent turbo car will and it will sound proper
madmk1escort2.1rally Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 SO WHAT NEED'S DOING TO THE HEAD FOR A N/A COZZY I DON'T WANT A TURBO IT'S JUST A EXTRA THING TO GO RONG ON A STAGE RALLY BUT WILL POSS GO FOR THROTTLE BODIES ARE THEY A GOOD IDEA OR STICK TO TWINN 45 WEBBERS OR TWIN 50'S WHICH DO YOU THINK
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Stick to carbs as they cost £2000 less than a proper fuel injected full engine management system (i know cos i've got one ) . The headwork will depend on how much power you want (190 bhp is easy , 300bhp isn't) so this will affect the price . You will also need new pistons to raise the C.R. of the engine . If you want a fast one then buy a built engine from an experianced builder as most D.I.Y. ones aren't anywhere near as good
deltamal Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 They arn't cheap! mine has got 45 TB's, Accralites, and DTA management, solid lifters etc, built by John Read, 240 bhp on the dyno, doing a 15.2' quarter on a full weight mk3 Tina.
CapriBoy Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Exactly what work what need doing to a cossie head if say i wanted to put one on a pinto block with carbs? would the ports need openin up or summin?
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Yes you need the ports opening up but it will depend on how much power you want and the rest of the engines spec . For example Wilcox will port a YB head for N.A. use for £500 and this will see enough air for 220+ bhp
Retromotorsport Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Yes you need the ports opening up but it will depend on how much power you want and the rest of the engines spec . For example Wilcox will port a YB head for N.A. use for £500 and this will see enough air for 220+ bhp The Wilcox 220bhp KIT .. 4 Forged pistons std / o/s, 1Inlet manifold - side draft, 4 Carb spacers alloy, 8 Carb studs, 8 Carb rubber mounts, 2 Weber 45 DCOE, 1 Steel flywheel, 16 Tappet shim conversion, 16 Competition valve springs, 16 Steel valve caps, 1 Head converted to 220 Bhp spec, 2 Camshafts reprofiled. Guest MK1gaz Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 On the wilcox website the headwork for 220 bhp is £320 and for a 280 bhp head it's £520
Retromotorsport Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 On the wilcox website the headwork for 220 bhp is £320 and for a 280 bhp head it's £520 yeah but that listed in a kit .... i buy the washers and fit them to a standard cossie and make 220 bhp then ..as they come in the kit ..
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 The YB head porting is cheaper than buying a conversion kit to fit a duratec into an Escort
BaileyMex Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Just out of curiosity, what would a standard YB lump have power wise out of the box with no Mods?
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Just out of curiosity, what would a standard YB lump have power wise out of the box with no Mods? a low compression turbo spec YB without a turbo would be crap , you have to change the cams , pistons and port the head
Retromotorsport Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 The YB head porting is cheaper than buying a conversion kit to fit a duratec into an Escort This is a thread about Cosworths... so when loosing dont bring up the Duratec versus Cossie argument .. Bailey mex... i may be wrong but i've heard around 120 -140 odd.. maybe WPE would know..
