flyingbanana Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 has any one ever used it?...im stripping my strut legs de-rusting etc and wondering if it sticks to etch primmer......also is it any good for high corrosion areas like struts...or am i better off using hammerite ...whats your thoughts on this thanks
Twinkle Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 i use the light blue smoothrite on front legs and it seems to last well
flyingbanana Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 did u put any primmer on it before you painted twink...also are they standard mk2 legs?....has im wondering if its worth coil covers.....if it can be done to standard mk2 legs
Twinkle Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 no primer m8 just cleaned back with wire wheel in an angle grinder you can get a primer for hammerite though. the top ones are converted rs legs and the bottoms are billies, i dont know if you can convert standard ones as i have a feeling the diameter is different on the strut
john_3.0s Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 i etch primed mine then slung some of the blue plastikote on them, not been out in the rain / salt etc yet but i was impressed with the quality of the paint aftre a couple of coats, plus in my local focus DIY store its less that halfrauds own paint & hammerite
Jay_harrier Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I used it on mine, it goes on well. I hoping it doesn't chip as bad as hamerite.
flyingbanana Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 cheers guys...john i assume you didnt have a re-action with the etch when u added the paint then?
john_3.0s Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 nah it went on fine, just a decent coat of etch (upol), and wacked the plastikote on and it took perfectly
turner Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 You can also get an anti rust plastikote,i painted the sump and petrol tank on my old classic consul with it .no sign of rust or chip damage for the year or so i used it as a daily driver. It was a bigger than usual cans plus they only had it in black.
