I've been waiting since the 16th for a parcel from Birmingham, I know the posties have got their reasons for striking but it knocks the crap out of people who are self employed and rely on the post, I had a load of cheques delayed through the strike as well, I'm now trying to sort out a deal with a courier on taking everything I send out, feck em, if they cant be bothered to get it delivered I'll find someone who will

the strike has resulted in loads of grief for people, me included. but you've got to say good luck to the posties. it's good to see someone standing up for themselves these days.

Cmon Rick, why should you get overtime to fix a problem that was caused by going on strike in the first place?

If managment want to pay 60 agency staff £18 an hour this sunday to clear up the backlog

Instead of £15 an hour for 40 royal mail staff then it goes to show how immature and stupid they are,

And your right why should they,Give overtime to postman,Who are trained and know the job inside out...

Let them pay agency and managment clear the backlog,

But when the general public moan that they havent got there mail/parcles you know why...

Why should i or any other postman help someone doing my job and taking overtime away from me and my fellow royal mail staff..

Higher Managment caused the problem let them fix it...

And let them or the PR machine tell you how well there doing next month!!!

As i know i for one,

Have lost 10 days money during the strike ....But its cause Royal mail millions in custom and generally a lot customers are pissed off.

Let the managment and casual and agency staft sort the problem if that makes everyone happy then!

ah, cause & effect  was it the strike that caused the grief, or the unfair treatment of staff?

 Unfair treatment of staff is indeed a just cause for going on strike. However, the unfair treatment of staff was not carried out by the general public who rely on the postal service and are now the ones that are suffering from the effects of the strike.

As a postal user, what I see is the cost of postal services continually going up, whilst the quality of the postal service I receive goes down. 2nd postal delivery: - gone. Damaged / missing parcels: - I've sent / received (or not received as the case may be) about 4 in the last 4 months alone. Compensation for missing items of post? At best laughable, I appreciate these are management issues and not problems caused by the postie on the ground (so don't be offended Rick) but these kind of things don't instill confidence in the average postal user.

totally agree with you vista, one of the best (non strike) examples i've had is having to quit using the tesco's dvd rental service because 6 out of 11 were lost in the post

but, what's changing - the price increases are unavoidable sadly, but the main issue is the change in service jo public is receiving. 2nd delivery being lost, compensation etc. these are all decisions at higher management level, as are the proposed changes to staff conditions. i also wouldn't mind betting a good deal of the damage/loss issues could be down to using less competent agency staff  that and probably a deeply downhearted workforce.

and if the whole setup is anything like the mod, i imagine the management spend millions on consultancy!

postmen use royal mail aswell vista, were delaying out own mail, it was never the initial plan of action but when the bosses take executive action (ie: enforce the new rules regardless of what union and workers say) that leaves us with no option but to strike. people power is our best weapon.

The public only know what theyre told which is usually propaganda from the top. thats why everyone hates postmen now, you are constantly told what a bad bunch we are on tv and in the papers. There are a few out there that actually stop and think 'hold on they must be striking for a bloody good reason', and we are!

the people doing our overtime cant speak a work of english. double dutch at the best.

iv watched them put mailbags on the wrong containers and sort mail incorrectly, but im not gonna correct them and show them how to do my job. This is a semi skilled job and you cant replace postal workers with £3 an hour immigrants.
