How much is a running engine+ box worth

 

What is the gearbox called and what other engines will it fit?

v4 fit it and you can get a conversion to fit it to a v8

 

and i think u will find might work 2.8,as ive put a 4 speed 2.8 box on 3.0l bell hoseing we did cut the end down on the in put shaft down

so a 2.8 box fits a v6essex? as the floor of my estate is made to fit an essex box...

 

but i dont know what they are called and if they will fit a pinto or crossflow?

no cant see it fitting a crossflow or pinto but not 100%sure but never heared it being done,

 

you can put a 2.3 seirra diseal box on a v6 colone engine

A 2.8i box will mate to an Essex V6 with a few mods, assuming you're talking about the 5 speed 2.8i box (I've never tried it with a 4 speed 2.8i box)

 

You need a bell housing from a cologne V4 engined Ford (early transit / capri etc) and you need to machine 14.7mm off the gearbox input shaft, i.e. shorten the shaft that you insert into the flywheel by 14.7mm.

 

As to value of an Essex now? No idea sorry, if it helps you could pick them up for £40 or £50 when I last bought one but that was around 1996

it has to be a 4 speed - box to fit it it's to do with the bolt hole's on the rear of bell hoseing to box cant remember exact but i no it work's that way,

 

to fit a 5-speed box you need a v4 bell houseing i do belive

i think the e speed from a v6 is also called a t9 but the input shaft is longer

 

but i am not 100% in this

The essex 4 speed box is called a type 5.

2.8i 4 speed box and essex box are the same (type 5) except the 2.8 box's input shaft is 15mm longer. There heavy duty boxs and can take a bit more abuse than a type9. doubt very much u could fit them to pinto or crossflow without a modified bellhousng.
