any tips please on mattblack painting

ive decided my cortinas going matt black as its cheaper and (supposidly easy) any helfull tips welcome cheers

this is how we did my mates mk2 golf

 

use some fine wet and dry all over the car....

wash car with fairy liquid and chamois dry

brush off dush

paint with matt black a few coats is better

 

only took a few hrs

yeak you cant go wrong with matt black as long as your panels are grease free and warm

use satin black rather then matt m8 and talk to your friendly local gareage / bodyshop dont buy it in halfrauds in there ittl cost u about 100 pound or more for enough cans but from my local garagfe i can get enough cans for 24pound lol

i had sanded mine, just took the laqour off, then masked up, then sprayed

if youve got access to a compressor its probably cheaper that way dunno how much a rattle can job costs in cans

as said above dont use matt use satin its a beter finish

what about primer or dont you bother

primer any bare metal m8 but for painted surfaces just key it up well and make sure its fecking clean !

If you prime it and block sand you will get a better finish and it will last longer, make sure its amazingly clean and had an even matt finish all over, when you look at it it from a distance of 10cm make sure you can see no tiny bits of gloss as this is what will cause it to fail..

 

Use a commercial satin black available at trade paint outlets and borrow a compressor dont waste your life with rattle cans, the paint is over thinned and usually of poor quality, and will look sh it in about 18 months..

 

I can get 5 litres of trade commercial satin black for £56 and its great stuff....

when i did my capri i still spent a lot of time on the prep, even though satin black does cover a multitude of sins

 

 

i painted it over night at an ambulance station and the light wasnt that good and ended up a bit streaky in places so i gave it a few light dusting coats the next day to get rid of them
