BaileyMex Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Does anyone know anything about machining down the inside of an alloy wheel hub?? Not much only say 5mm or so... Reason I ask is that the 7" Minilites on my car, the N/S rear rubs on the arch quite a bit when you corner hard, and it's chewin up the tyre. Dont Want to mess with the arches and dont really wanna start changing rear axles.... Does anyone know anywhere in the south that could machine a bit off the inside of 2 alloys??
erick Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I can understand that this would cure your tyre clearance problems but I would not recommend this due to safety reasons, options are narrow the axle expensive or drill out the inner wheel tubes welds and push the arch out and re-weld

LEONMEX Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 hello bud,my mate had some 7.5x13 four spoke rs alloys done to fit his anglia. Not sure how much he had taken off but done the trick. had it done by a company in clacton (essex) called Towler engineering they just machined them down on the lathe. I guess any machine shop could do it,altough a few people didnt advise it! They are still on there though!
tim Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 so u what to change the offset of your wheel,i think 7 are -10 offset,i know it can be done at a machine shop but i dont know if there enough of the hub left to machine down and 4 it 2 be safe,bet talk 2 a machine shop,would of thought colin a or marty will know some where. since when do u corner hard

Anglia68 Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Fitting a Panhard Rod or Watts Linkage will allow you to centralise the axle as well as stopping any sideways movement when cornering hard.
