countrybumpkin Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 this is a question thats been bugging me for ages, my escort is currently fitted with a 205 block pinto with is very worn its done about 160000mile so i'm building a new engine which is a normal block i think i know the differences are the cylinder walls a thicker on the 205 but for a engine that is mainly for road use is the any real advantage to the 205 block
Admin Vista Posted November 27, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 27, 2007 Depends what you want to do with it. The 205 block casting is better and it can withstand boring out further than the early blocks. If your 205 block has never been rebuilt then a rebore and freshen up would do more for you than buying another second hand pinto. Granted it'll cost you more than fitting a second hand engine, but you'll know what went into it and it'll probably be a better engine for it. The 2nd hand one could just as easily let you down in a months time.
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 If your gonna use it mainly for the road with little tuning, then that block will be fine.. Jeff Harris...
countrybumpkin Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 yeah thats quite true but i've just bought a 50000 mile pnto with ompleat sevice history for £100 where s every thing i need to rebuild the 205 was going to come to £600-£800 which i cant really afford, as everything need replacing on it as its so worn, it smokes all the time, the bottom end nocks there is some piston slap and theres no more ajustment on the cam followers
Admin Vista Posted November 27, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 27, 2007 Fair do's, sounds like the right course of action. Keep that 205 block in the shed for when you want some more horses though
countrybumpkin Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 yeah thats what i was thinking, stick it in the corner and save up for ages, then have a really nice engine built from it
countrybumpkin Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 i picked up the new engine that i was going to freshen up with new gaskets to replace my worn pinto today, i was told but the guy selling it it was a standard block, when i get there i find its a 205 block so i said nothing and loaded it quickly so as you can imagine i'm a very happy bunny
TwoLitrePinto Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 205 = unleaded head normal = not unleaded head correct me if im wrong as im not 100%
