off to the rolling road this morning . AM BACK WITH RESULTS

plenty of people said when i got the new v8 it wont be over 200 horse some people said it will be well over so i thought theres only 1 way to find out . so ive just phoned the guy at a local rolling road and he can fitt me in at 10 am . so results later . anyone got an estimate what do you reckon it will be (if you know the spec still not typeing that up again )

Here you go......

 

engine . standards su,s bar jaguar inlets into fuel chambers, neddles are reprofiled by north wales rolling road . exhaust is 2inch bore by pcs .heads are standard sd1 bar vittesse vaves and springs, spring seats lowered some by reel steel .

oil connected to remote filter setup.

spark plugs are bosch platinum. water pump is p6 type .

alternater is ford , coil is rover, ignition is rove sd1 including ballast resistor plate on passenger side inner wing (silverplate)

 

fuel pump is facet red top upto 300hp and is wired to oil preasure switch so it shuts down if engine stalls or oil preasure is low .(legal)

 

hydraulic lifter are .rhoads type and can be noisy if driven hard (there designed to pump up at high revs to give more valve lift (more bhp) and bleed down at low revs to give better torque . pushrods are vittese (lighter than sd1) new cam chain fitted on rebuild .cam is crane 214 .

 

the engine is rebored to 3.9 and high compression pistons are fitted .crank is reground and tuftrided .flywheel is lightened and alanced . crank and pistons and pulley wheel are balanced .

 

 

Looks like a good spec, but I am no expert on Rovers.

 

My un-educated guess 200-225 and loads of Torque!!

with all that i would expect close to 210 maybe 215 on a fresh build, considering it probably needs retuning im going to say 197 for the rolling road

so just got back from the rolling road all went well .

operator reckons that clutch was slipping big time and it could do with a holley or similar on it and should see a fair bit more then .

 

 

have a few probs at first with a misfire and it wasnt reving out but a slight bit of fettling and it was fine .

thease are flywheel figures .

 

 

is this any good ya reckon guys . plus the 4 speed makes it quicker .

Not bad at all but nowhere near the 276odd claimed by the owner. Even with a holley or similar it won't reach those figures. Still - be happy 200+ bhp ain't to be sniffed at. Should run a low 14 maybe?

Sounds great, seems a strange way to RR it, he just seems to blip the throttle, maybe its the clutch slip you mentioned.

yeah he was only a young lad . he tried to fobme off with 163bhp i wasnt having that then he said there was a loose connection on the ignition wire or something .

 

 

am off to find a holley .

hey ken i dont think he revved it out much was he looking at your tacho coz it is still v6 tach in your car so there may be another 1000 rpm or so in there
