lee_capri Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 brought new tunnel for my car how would you go about fitting it,i no ive got to weild it in but would you cut the floor out and slide it up from beneith or weild straight to the floor from inside and just trim up under neith
lee_capri Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 also got these one is sligtley shorter than the other, does any-one no which side the shorter one go's on
Rick Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 it would prob be neater let in from the underside but harder to weld
Mick The Mig Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 We had same problem when we fitted pinto to "noodles" estate. fitted them wrong way round to start. Can't remember right way but noodles is working on his car tonight I will get him to check and reply.
lee_capri Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 nice one best way to do tunnel any-one who has done one
Muttley MK2 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 First strip out interior, then cut out all of the old tunnel leaving the floor and bulkhead uncut. With that out lay your new tunnel over the hole. Trim off any remaining floor and bulkhead that gets in the way. Go underneath and check the alignment of the tunnel. When it is posistioned correctly tack weld it at several points. To do it right you should have the g/box in place so you can check clearance! When you are totally happy seam weld all round from the inside, the double thickness will give you a stronger weld. Then go back uderneath and either trim off the excess floor and b/head ot as I do dress it up and into the tunnel and weld it under there too. Hope this helps and good luck
lee_capri Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 that sound's like a good plan as want it to look neat when finshed, thank's matey
countrybumpkin Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 i cant help with the tunnel but i'm fairly sure the shorter mount gose on the drivers side
Admin Vista Posted November 29, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 29, 2007 i cant help with the tunnel but i'm fairly sure the shorter mount gose on the drivers side Other way round, (we are talking about a pinto install right?) there's an old saying, I believe coined by a wisecracking navigator at some point: - All things thick go on the drivers side.
capri07 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 SNAP!!! I BOUGHT THE SAME TUNNEL FROM RALLY DESIGN AT THAT DONNINGTON PARK SHOW A WHILE BACK. HAVENT FITTED MINE YET, WONT BE FITTING IT FOR A WHILE YET EITHER,LET ME KNOW IF YOU COME ACROSS ANY DIFFICULT PARTS IF YA DONT MIND LIKE,SOUND OUT
over_head_cam Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 As described above I fitted Darrens tunnel from inside
Noodles Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 I fitted the tunnel from the inside and bent the lip in wards on the outside
16super Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 If you fit it from the inside make sure you trim any excess metal on outside & then seam weld that as well otherwise you will get a water trap all the way round it & your new tunnel will rot & fall out, personally I would fit from the outside & seam weld then run sealer all round, inside doesn't have to be so neat if you're gonna fit a carpet & definitly no chance of a water trap.
lee_capri Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 just as well i hav'nt got any carpet
countrybumpkin Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 i cant help with the tunnel but i'm fairly sure the shorter mount gose on the drivers side Other way round, (we are talking about a pinto install right?) there's an old saying, I believe coined by a wisecracking navigator at some point: - All things thick go on the drivers side. that probably means i need to turn my mounts round oh what fun
Noodles Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 you should be able to tell straigt away if there wrong cos the engine will be pissed I fitted mine wrong to start with then took the engine out straight away to change em
