We had same problem when we fitted pinto to "noodles" estate. fitted them wrong way round to start. Can't remember right way but noodles is working on his car tonight I will get him to check and reply.

First strip out interior, then cut out all of the old tunnel leaving the floor and bulkhead uncut. With that out lay your new tunnel over the hole. Trim off any remaining floor and bulkhead that gets in the way. Go underneath and check the alignment of the tunnel. When it is posistioned correctly tack weld it at several points. To do it right you should have the g/box in place so you can check clearance! When you are totally happy seam weld all round from the inside, the double thickness will give you a stronger weld. Then go back uderneath and either trim off the excess floor and b/head ot as I do dress it up and into the tunnel and weld it under there too. Hope this helps and good luck

i cant help with the tunnel but i'm fairly sure the shorter mount gose on the drivers side

Other way round, (we are talking about a pinto install right?) there's an old saying, I believe coined by a wisecracking navigator at some point: -

All things thick go on the drivers side.

If you fit it from the inside make sure you trim any excess metal on outside & then seam weld that as well otherwise you will get a water trap all the way round it & your new tunnel will rot & fall out, personally I would fit from the outside & seam weld then run sealer all round, inside doesn't have to be so neat if you're gonna fit a carpet & definitly no chance of a water trap.
