I am planning on having 7 x 13 " rims on my Capri but i am still chewing over what size tyres to go for.

205 60 are the normal route but they do bulge slightly and may rub on a lowered car and are a little tall for my taste, whereas a 185 60 would look more pleasing from the side and might roll less on the rim, but would presumably offer less grip??.

Or maybe 205 on an 8" rim if I could bet more offset?

Any thoughts guys?

Had 205/60's on mine which is REALLY on the floor without any rubbing. If you fit them to 8" rims they still fit but you may need to tap the lip slightly. 185's look a little lost IMHO.

I had 195-55x13 tyres on 7" wide rims on the rear of a hillman imp i had years ago, i'm sure they were Uniroyals, don't know if they are still available though.

Another tyre to consider though is a 215-50x13 Kumho on a 7" rim, these are what i was going to use on my 3.0S before i decided on the X-pack. These will fit under standard arches as it's what the group one racing Capris use and i'm sure they are not allowed any arch mods, they look cool too 8)

I`ve seen that size on the race capri`s in the top hat series, but I think they were using 8" rims. Would they roll to much on a 7"?

Would'nt have thought so, the ones i've seen use 7's for sure (usually superlights), that size tyre on an 8"er would foul the arches.

cant see a problum with 205's on a cappa after all the 2.8i left the factorey on them,my car in the pic is lowered by 2inch's all the way round tyre sit's close to the arch but dont catch, only a idea have you looked at the sping's if you are still running the spring's it came out of the factorey on then by now they will be week onlt a idea like i said,i can get my finger's in between the side of the tyre and the arch.

the only time my car will go backward's if the road's are damp or it's raining :lol::lol: ,in the dry it will do what ever i have the b**lc*s to take on,but im running a lsd and anti sway thingy's on the rear which does in prove thingy's had lot's of capri's,all be ar** happy wet or dry,but the v8i has the thing's they never but in the wet it is just has hopeless, but in the dry it's brillent

its pointless just saying the width of the wheel and expectina a concrete answer on if it will fit or not because you can have a 6" rim that will foul the arches it all depends on the offset

some ppl just say and "8 rim will fit fine but ive had "7's tht didtn fit and its pointless talkign about it without mentioning the offset !

i would also agree with that it might be worth your while finding out what the off set is on a set of rs seven spoke's has this is a staned wheel for the cappa, and see were your getting rim's from can do something that will sit the same

In the past I`ve had 185 60 13 on 5.5J rims, 205 60 13 on 7J and 215 50 BF goodrich on 7J aswell.

So I know they all fit depending on wheel offset, but I guess I`m looking for the best compromise between handling and looks.

From memory the 215`s were liable to roll about on the front or atleast that is how it felt and they understeered badly even in the dry but on the rear they were great and gave good grip for the 1/4 mile, infact my best times were on these. The bad experience on the front may have been down to the make of tyre combined with the fact I was running 250lb springs that were putting more work into the tyre.

205`s were okay but just looked like a little tall to my taste, and the 185`s were good with the standard capri suspension and gave good acceleration due to the smaller diameter butI am guessing they would give less bite off the line.

So I am thinking of 205 50`s (dunlop sp9000) or if someone could convince me that a different make of 215 50 (kumhos?) would handle well on a 7j on the front then I might go that way instead.

I`ll probably end up with 205 60`s though

Cheers for the input so far

I've only ever seen one set of 195/50/13 and they were trailer tyres !!

45 & 55 profile are available though

You are right, when someone mentioned 195/50's i thought that's what i had but now that i've thought about it they were 195/55/13's on the rear of that Imp, sure they were Uniroyals.

I'll edit my previous post

not tyres i know but...im fitting an x-pack kit and just wondering what size alloy to use, at the back i was thinking of using 9-10"wide on the back and 8"on the front (15" alloys) the car will be lowered a small amount.they are revoloution 5 spokes, so what do you's think

Taking up on what Messenjah says the 7" rims I`m looking at seem to either the Revolites in a -7 offset or rs 4 spokes in a +5 offset.

I think -7 on a very low car could be an issue, which is a shame as I love revolites.

Any idea what offset the original revolutions have?

I have 205 60 13's on the front of my capri and they seemed to handle ok. Look slightly lost in the arches though(XPACK) Have 235 60 13's on rear and they handle ok to, and don't look lost - look fat and ace. All goodyears on 7.5 allies.
