escort21 Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Went to Frankenstein motorsport today and got the single 40 set up. Set up the timing as well and it now pulls nicely in every gear . Power curve was shocking and dropped off at 4000 when we started. Power output is down on what it got at the buysell rolling road(68 at wheels) but this could be due to different rolling roads. Still it doesn' t seem to make the power expected from a standard engine
mk1mexico Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 thats maybe because the standard engine figure is taken at the flywheel.
escort21 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 Made 72 at the flywheel and 60 at the wheels
X-pack-Glyn Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 i think you left the handbrake on mate! exactly my prediction was it not, timing out and power dropping off at 5000 i said!
105Speed Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 I had that on my blue van. Did a load of work, big valve head, single 45, Aldon Dizzy, 4 into 1 manifold and then rollered it, it made 49bhp at the wheels, and about 74 at the fly. Ironically it actually made the same power and a little more torque with the 28/36 on it. It made no real power after 4500 rpm, and that was because it had a standard cam in it. However, when we installed the same single 45 on the engine that was in my saloon, that made an additional 9bhp over the 28/38 but that had a lot more work done to it. But dubious about only 12bhp of transmission losses though between the flywheel and road wheels.
105Speed Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 A standard 1600 from a MkII Cortina is 71bhp at 5000rpm and 91.5lb/ft torque at 2500 according to the data book A GT is 88bhp at 5400rpm with 96lb/ft torque at 3600
escort21 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 This is a 711m xflow from an escort. Still got the new lightened/balanced and cammed up xflow on its way so it should be better with that
Fiesta Steve Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 But dubious about only 12bhp of transmission losses though between the flywheel and road wheels. The graph makes no sense at all. The torque and bhp should ALWAYS cross over at 5252 rpm. Like this;
escort21 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 The lines on the graph are of the first run and the last run.........both seem to cross over at just over 4 grand
Hilux Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 doesn't really matter what carb you fit, if the the engine is standard then you can only get the same airflow through the head, have a big valve job, ported, gasflowed and cammed up and you change the gas flow characteristics and then you will notice the difference
escort21 Posted November 1, 2006 Author Report Posted November 1, 2006 Wasn't expecting any more power but wasn't expecting less than with the twin choke
Chris! Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 My mk1 gt has its standard 1500cc engine, and its standard webber carb! Weve got that to 94 bhp (it has 224 kent cam)
Dom Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 The graph makes no sense at all. The torque and bhp should ALWAYS cross over at 5252 rpm Yup and if it doesn't either there's something wrong or someone is telling porkies
