davreeve Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I was wondering why people own the cars that they do. I have a couple of fiestas (one sort of running and one project)and i love them but only got a fiesta after i wrote off my rally rep mk2 escort in 2004 as i could not afford another one at the time and could buy and build a half decent fiesta for less than the price of a 2dr escort. So for me it was a financial thing and although i would have another escort i am quite happy being fwd.
antz Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 i got an escort cos i loved watching them rallying, one came up at the right price and i just loved the shape. didnt care what model, how many doors or colour (as long as it wasnt red cos my mum has a superstition about red cars and im banned from having one ) but i didnt care it just ahd to be an escort! i did think about a capri but couldnt afford the insurance.
davreeve Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 THats why i like escorts ,used to watch them rallying on world of sport or grandstand saturday afternoons as a kid in the 70,s ,Funny how things stick in your mind
zetecmk2 Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 when i was young, my mates had mk1 and 2 escorts. i raced mountain bikes so never got into cars until much later. was in to minis for years (like most of us) ! oneday i saw a mk2 escort on a forcourt and just got it coz it was cheap rwd fun for the winter! that brought back memories of my mates cars (country lanes, snow, teenagers and an endless supply of cheap escorts). 7 yrs and 6 engines later.......etc etc
PaulAshman Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 My first car was a mk1 fiesta which i loved. Anyway many years on and i have had a few osf's but my present one is for keeps. I am a drummer so it's pretty cool turning up for gigs with my band in the sport wagon

Anglia68 Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 An Anglia 105E is the only Ford I can get into my narrow garage and still work on. Plus it's the best looking Ford saloon of all time.

c1arke Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 am a rally boy so the mk2 escort being the icon of rally history i liked them and my dad having endless ones when he was 18 rallying them and him getting 1 i end-en up loving them but rather-ed the mk2 so got on hear and tried my hardest to get 1 and now i do and its staying with me till i kill it or it kills me. never liked any other OSF but now love the capper, 100e, 105e, pop, escorts and the fezz.
Muttley MK2 Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I think I have had at least one of all the osf's at one time or another, then in 1987 I bought a 3 year old 2.81 Capri and from that point it can only be Capri for me!
blower Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 escorts were plentyfull in the 80s ,£250 was the price of my 1st escort , and it was a mk2 2 door ,1.1 ,although the colour was beige , with no headrests the next 4 cars were all mk2 escorts FFW 20 years later i now own my 1st mk1 escort ... bring it on
jimihendrix Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I love old Fords in general but i grew (sp?) up around Capris. In 1980 my sisters boyfriend had a MK2 1600gt and a neighbour had a MK2 3.0 Ghia there was also a black 2.0 JPS in my street and i remember the day one of my teachers drove in with a brand new gold MK3 3.0S, i,m on my fifth Capri now but i've also had a couple of MK1 fiestas and a MK2 Escort 1600 Ghia, i,ve had loads of other cars too inc Yanks but always come back to fords and in particular Capris.
bortaf Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Had an old ford since they were throw away shatters owned ni-on all of in me time, never had a Mk1 transit, consol classic/capri or a 100E but tried the rest
herb capri Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 i just had a mk1 escort van as 1st car and kept getting other types of motor for a few years and endid up gettin another ford capri and now i couldnt live with any other motr. and i think were just cooler pepole. mike
ADY Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I set out to look for a car from the year i was born, was really looking to buy a capri and then a 2 door mk2 escort turned up, it was cheap and in good condition. Thats how i ended up with my 1300 mk2 2door escort. As the car was a 1300 I obviously wanted to make it faster so starterd to look around for parts to covert to a pinto, then i spotted a 76 mk2 rs2000, it worked out cheaper to buy that then to source all the parts seperatly, hence at the mo i have 2 mk2 escorts.
zetecmk2 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 i got my kooltina coz its the same age as me and has my initials in no plate, wasnt looking for 1 but............
Richierich Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 My uncle had a mk1 when i was at school, never saw any others around or knew about the rally thing, or cf scene, just loved it, the shape, style etc. Was in smiths once and saw classic ford on the shelf (April 99 i think), picked it up and reallised other people loved old fords too! Eventually got my uncles mk1 when it failed the MOT, so I have the same car I used to draw pictures of bk in school, lol
bigglesmk2 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 My dad was abit of an Arther Daily when i was a kid so i had many road trip's in the back of some banger he'd picked up for nowt stuck an mot on and was trying to flog. The car's i remember the most were a mk1 fezza ghia with supersport kit and alloy's on a mk1 escy estate and a couple of cortina's oh and mk2 capri that got stolen twice while trying to sell it. My bro bought a mk2 escort and i used to tag along with him for a while then he parked it under a tree and left it there for 3 years's,when i past my test i bought it off him and used it and have owned it ever since . I ended up with a couple of capri's at one point but the mk2 is deffo the keeper.
CapperTom Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I use too be mad on drag racing and talk about building a drag car. My Bruv and Dad usr to say A capri would be best as they are big and have big trans tunnel and would take v8 easy. Then as i started looking at what they were on about i fell in love with the capri and had too have one, and now i do and am loving every minute of having one, the only way we would be seperated was if i were killed.
Mr Sam Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 the fiesta was about the cheapest thing to buy run maintain insure etc as a first car and i got rather atached as its still my only road car 3 years later and bought the anglia because i wanted something RWD no way could i afford an escort and i just love the shape of them
pauln Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I bought the Cortina because I thought I could do it up and sell it for a profit if I did'nt like it. But I do like it (owned for over 4years now) and it's a fun rolling project. It will never be a show car but it's keeping me entertained whether its taking me to the shops or blasting round the country lanes. Also cheap to run and insure.
ilovegrannys Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 MK2 Granada always comes back to haunt me. I started off years back with a mk2. I then moved on to a Capper, then a mk2 Tina. After that mk2 Granny...theres a pattern here. I tried a mk5 Tina but i wanted a Granny again. Thats my story and i am sticking to it. Mind you i am being drawn to mk1 scort. Lets see......
bangar Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 i got a mk2 cortina, always wanted one since school. It was cheap to buy run insure, and very practical got four doors big boot RWD simple to mod. My first car was a mad mini very impractical so the mrs helped me buy the mk2 good move
GT_Jim Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 because my triumph herald was painfully slow and i prefer cortinas
