Not sure if anyone has posted anything about this before but it is very relevent to owners of all classic cars.

Several EU proposals across the years are dangerous to the classic car movement. One that has been under consideration is to ban the use of cars older than 10 years. Similarly, Edinburgh City Council is considering the banning of cars over 15 years old from the town centre. These, and similar, proposals directly threaten the classic car movement, and encourage the manufacture of new cars, with the attendent environmental issues of sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, distriuting and scrapping the spiralling supply of new vehicles.

its stupid, there was a report recently puyblished saying that the energy required to build a new car is more than an classic vehicle including the classic cars emissions

so in a way we are saving the planet

also signed, but they cant exactly force people to drive newer cars, a lot of people cant actually aford a newer car, and i really doubt the good old gov are gonna buy people new cars!!

Yeah but they force businesses to have to buy newer lorries so they can meet pollution limits... so what is to say they dont just set an even higher set of standards to which cars have to pass on emmission MOT's... i bet alot of our cars wouldnt pass that way!! :(

people seem to forget the reason our fords are still around are that they were the best ones!! the lesser are already long dead (be it through driver fault, car cancer or infact inferior methods :? ) . just because it came off a prduction line 35 mins ago rather than 35 years don't really mean they're any better!!

hey guys, thats not many sig's.. i don't think they'll get the point from this ammount of ppl. where is everyone? is this not important?

Not again

i've signed one of these 3 time already

the reason it's so low is most have signed at least one of them and nothing came of it.

Mainly cos it's based on a survey done in a foreign country that 1 scottish city looked into once a few years ago and somone found out and now the whole country is up in arms over nothing.

For a start it was only banning older more poluting cars from a city centre which in case you havn't noticed has already happend in london, (missed that one i guess, too busy looking north possably?) with the LEZ, which by the way classic cars are EXEMPT from !!

And to be perfectly honist it's a crap petition, i meen

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Reject any proposals to ban or restrict the use of older cars"

Oooo that's sounds profesional and specific, somthing people in power are gonn take notice of, NOT

headless and chickens spring to mind

Na i recon they will make any historic (tax exempt) car weekend use only or sumink like that, retro inforcing laws would be a nightmare for the MOT which is why they've never done it.

Mind you in china they update the emissions laws every year so once you car fails it's off the road and sent over to a more "leinient country" ,

This one actually, grey import anyone?

Dont for one second think that they cant do this if they want to! My 1989 Merc 408 Recovery truck will be scrap in six months time along with thousands of others like it. I have the choice of trying to fit a Euro IV compliant engine, circa 6 to 8,000 pounds. Fitting a catylst exhaust system, circa 3 to 4,000 pounds or buying a newer compliant vehicle, 20.000 pounds and up!!! L E Z, I believed it would not happen and I signed an E petition to stop it! The kind folks at TFL ignored it and went ahead. They dont give a shit about the likes of us so get used to it!!

sadly i can assure you it will get ignored

since when have any government in this country listened to people's opinions unless they are convinced it will affect actual votes?

Or you can do like me and sell it to somone outside london and buy a newer truck

Well I could, if I could afford one. Trouble is I like my old "Muttley" I know all his little faults and over the years I have modded him to just what I want, he fits me like a pair of old trainers! To replace him with a compliant truck of similar quality would cost 20,000 plus!
