This is Hypothetical at the moment as i dont yet have an osf. But say for instance i wanted to fit the above to say a mk1 escort or mk1 fiesta (As there the osfs iam looking at)or for that matter any osf, would it involve alot of work? Would any changes to battery Alternator or electrics etc be needed? I know its kinda like putting the Cart before the Horse but just dont want to get an osf, for some low life to have away with.

Cat1 Thatcham or insurance approved alarms have a 2 point immobilliser usually a starter, fuel pump or ignition wire is cut to stop the car from starting plus a battery back ........... keeps going even if wires are cut .These are rated as the best type of alarm. You can get Cat2 which are Immollisers only.

You can then have additional sensors such as microwave .........works on body heat and movement .............glass break ......... like a microphone tuned to the sound of breaking glass or ultra sonics / or air movement sensors ........... 2 microphones....... sends a signal from one and receives the signal in the other.

Trackers or pagers can also be added which will send a signal from the alarm to a remote unit kept with the owner or send a text to your mobile.

Short of the LED any over ride switch and the siren the system should be hidden away and can be loomed in with the original wiring if the fitter wanted to spend the time to do this, i have done this with show cars in the past .....................it just takes time which means can be more expensive.

As with most things i would suggest not to just go for the cheapest quote as a good job takes time and time means money !! but try to find a company who has been recommended by someone you know. I have good contacts country wide if anyone is interested.

In my 10 years or so of fitting these systems, i would recommend ........Toad, Clifford,Cobra or Autowatch all of which i have found to be reliable if fitted correctly.

With some of the above you can also fit remote engine start where a button on the key fob can start your car from indoors handy for the cold mornings !! and incorporate a "turbo timer" which allows the engine to run for a set time after the key is removed.

Hope this is of some interest.
