capri302 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Anybody ever heard of a "Brooklands Special" Capri? It's a new one on me!
DoireMan Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 They're one of the most sought after, rare Mk3s mate.
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Last ever capri 2.8 injection with dark green paint , bigger wheels and leather etc
Cookie Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Last time i seen one of these was last November, being weighed in at the scrap merchants, I could'nt belive it, I bet they would'nt of done that if they realised what it's worth
FlashCadillac Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 how can you not know what a Brookie is saying that... i knew what they were, and i knew they were green, but didnt realise i was sat in one sunday just gone untill later that day went to pick some bits up off a guy for my capri.. got there and there is a mint mk3 in his garage... had a look around and sat in it... saw one for sale that evening and thought... funny that looks just like the one i was sat in earlier
capri302 Posted January 22, 2008 Author Report Posted January 22, 2008 No no,I know what a Brooklands is. My last Capri had the complete leather interior out of one! And I know what a "Special" is. I've never heard of a "Brooklands Special" Someone is selling some 7 spoke RS alloys in 16 inches. He reckons they are off a Brooklands Special! The Brookie's came with 15's!
X FLOW EDDY Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Last time i seen one of these was last November, being weighed in at the scrap merchants, I could'nt belive it, I bet they would'nt of done that if they realised what it's worth My local scrapyard had a proper 280 brooklands in just before christmas, it was a abandond project and in an a rite state !!! Bought the 15in wheels, bilstien front struts and the rear axle off the bloke for £100 !!!
capri302 Posted January 22, 2008 Author Report Posted January 22, 2008 Some people have all the luck. Had you stepped in something?!
X-pack-Glyn Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 I found one in a garage not 10 doors down from me, brought it for 300 and ripped it to bits....£1000 profit and kept the wheels... to be honest they rotted like hell...by far the worst capris for rust ever. rather have a nice 3 litre S meself.

bortaf Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 There's a nice brookie drives round by chase farm Hos on weekends 16's will be RS option alloys probably sierra if they are 16's, get a part number and i'll check fpr ya
sparkycapri Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 i'd say bortaf is right i know some sierras had rs 7 spokes, tho the ones i had were 15" just the wrong offset
4parajon Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Ive never heard of a "Brookie Special" either. As far as I'm aware the only difference between the special and a brookie were the alloys, interior and paint
FlashCadillac Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 why did the brookies rot more than the normal ones???
Rick Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 considering they were rare theres a lot of people owned or know to one
FlashCadillac Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 considering they were rare theres a lot of people owned or know to one mk1 escorts are rare... but 60% of the people on this forum own one
DoireMan Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 why did the brookies rot more than the normal ones??? Didn't they use a cheaper painting method or something?
X-pack-Glyn Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Only made enough paint for 500, then used it on all 1038 look at a showroom one, worst paint job ever... rust protection was non existent, unless you get a good restored one/reshelled from a pre 84 2.8i shell they allways crap... and as for everyone seeming to own one i think theres more than 1038 on the road now, but 90% will be reshelled jobbies.
4parajon Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 I heard similar to Glynn in that they they painted the first 500 cars as normal but then realised they did'nt have enough left so thinned it out for the balance. I also read/heard that they were poorly put together as everyone wanted rid of them by then. Spose we will never know what is true and what is'nt. Still my fave capri model though, just something about them IMO
capri302 Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 The wheels certainly look like the jelly mould ones! And when I pointed out the fact that the 280 only came with 15's, well!!!! As for the "rotting", I seem to remember reading somewhere that they didn't even have underseal on them! Not a good idea considering the wonderfull weather we enjoy here.
DarrenM Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 QUOTE: (reshelled from a pre 84 2.8i shell they allways crap) What happened in '84?
Muttley MK2 Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Ford used recycled steel from the mid to late eighties and as a result a lot of their motors from those years rotted away. I bought a 1600 mk4 escy van in 1987, it was alredy beginning to bubble in places and within 6 months had surface rust on most of the underside. I sold it after 1 year b4 it got terminal
X-pack-Glyn Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 QUOTE: (reshelled from a pre 84 2.8i shell they allways crap) What happened in '84? Early 2.8i shells are very well rust protected, the best being x reg and a reg. the later ones werent so good, and it went down hill badly from B registered cars onwards.
