No no,I know what a Brooklands is. My last Capri had the complete leather interior out of one! And I know what a "Special" is. I've never heard of a "Brooklands Special" Someone is selling some 7 spoke RS alloys in 16 inches. He reckons they are off a Brooklands Special! The Brookie's came with 15's!

I found one in a garage not 10 doors down from me, brought it for 300 and ripped it to bits....£1000 profit and kept the wheels...

to be honest they rotted like hell...by far the worst capris for rust ever.

rather have a nice 3 litre S meself.

Only made enough paint for 500, then used it on all 1038

look at a showroom one, worst paint job ever...

rust protection was non existent, unless you get a good restored one/reshelled from a pre 84 2.8i shell they allways crap...

and as for everyone seeming to own one i think theres more than 1038 on the road now, but 90% will be reshelled jobbies.

I heard similar to Glynn in that they they painted the first 500 cars as normal but then realised they did'nt have enough left so thinned it out for the balance.

I also read/heard that they were poorly put together as everyone wanted rid of them by then.

Spose we will never know what is true and what is'nt. :?

Still my fave capri model though, just something about them IMO

The wheels certainly look like the jelly mould ones! And when I pointed out the fact that the 280 only came with 15's, well!!!! As for the "rotting", I seem to remember reading somewhere that they didn't even have underseal on them! Not a good idea considering the wonderfull weather we enjoy here.

Ford used recycled steel from the mid to late eighties and as a result a lot of their motors from those years rotted away. I bought a 1600 mk4 escy van in 1987, it was alredy beginning to bubble in places and within 6 months had surface rust on most of the underside. I sold it after 1 year b4 it got terminal

What happened in '84?

Early 2.8i shells are very well rust protected, the best being x reg and a reg. the later ones werent so good, and it went down hill badly from B registered cars onwards.
