petrolhead Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Hello People, I'll keep this concise, I am a science teacher looking to start an after school driving/ mechanics course this summer that willl appeal to the non-academic kids at my school who need a bit of direction, motivation & something to aim for. I need three alloy engines (car or motorbike, terminally damaged isn't a problem) for one of the sessions, so they can strip/rebuild them and learn the basics. I haven't got a big budget but if you're in my area (SouthWest london) and have one knocking around give me a shout. If you're a company I'll make sure your name goes in the school newletter as a sponsor (goes to 1300 parents). It's for a good cause and I'm doing this all in my own time for the good of my kids. Thanks in Advance Petrolhead Matt
J_mk1 Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 how come it has to be ally mate? becuase of the weight or something?
petrolhead Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 Yeah, Health&Safety is my biggest headache and obstacle so I want to keep the engine weight as low as possible as the engines will be moved around by staff & pupils alot.
Fiesta Steve Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Can't help m8, but well done for doing this for the kids Sod alloy, give um x-flows they're childs play
petrolhead Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 true, and fairly light too. Trouble is even tired second hand ones are fetching big money!!! If anyone has an unwanted 1100 or 1300cc engine I can squeeze our bursar for money

Josh_gsy Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 What about the k-series rover engine 1.4 they were all ally? surely there must be plenty scrapped? goo thing your doing tho wish i could have done that at school!
4parajon Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Ive got a Rover K series engine here that was (believe it or not) delivered by mistake to me over 12 months ago by TNT and nobody has been top claim it, its still on the pallet it arrived on. Its a complete engine less ancillaries, I dont know what the internal condition of it is though, as Ive never touched it. If you want that, your more than welcome, carriage would be about £30-£40 as I'm in Manchester. Well done as well mate
baz105e Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Peugeot TU engines are ten a penny and real simple to work on. we used them when i was at college studying motor vehicle. they are liner'd engines (ally block with removable steel bores) try conacting peugeut main dealers as they will have skips full of them and i doubt they would charge anithing.
