Daggle Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Popped up to see the Anglia at my mates garage today, to get to it I have to drive down a little cobbled drive. I was in my daily driver (Focus ST170) when I drove into a pothole. Heard a big bang and thought nothing more about it. Had a look round the Anglia, its all looking sweet and running like a dream now, jumped back into the Focus to drive home and the engine management light is staying on. Thought it might be a loose wire from where it dropped down the pothole. So I popped it into the local Ford dealers, couple of hours later they ring me up and tell me that I had better come down and have a look at the damage. Went down their in the missus' car and the car is up in the air. Looks like I have smacked the manifold back, damaged the cat and snapped 2 oxygen sensors off Ok then I say, what's the damage then? £1151 including VAT Begged to get the price down asking for a bit of discount managed to get it down to £941 Still something I could have done without just after xmas, but it needs to be done. Apparantly the aftermarket one's can cause problems with the emmisons for the MOT, so I can't even go for a cheaper one. Motor factors don't do one either as its a special 4 branch manifold. Life's a Bitch sometimes
escortmad79 Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 HOWFOOKINMUCH? Mind you the last major repair bill for my daily driver RS Turbo came to £850 to repair the rear crankshaft oil seal, replace the clutch which had burnt itself out as the oil was spraying over the clutch plate & a service
bomber1 Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 thats sh1t m8. one of our lorry mechanics has an mondeo st24 around an S plate. he cant get it through the mot because off the emissions are to high. for ford to plug it in to the computer for a couple off hours and replace the cats £1500 ffs the car aint worth that. so they want us to drive round in new cars that are unecanomical to repair after 5yrs fook that
V8ian Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I would think Neil at 105speed or Dave a Retroford may have one laying about, I think the both have had 170 powered anglias, Give dave a ring first, he does a lot of work for neil.

Cheers for that, however I have had to bite the bullet and telll them to do it. Just means the missus will have to wait for that new kitchen
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Shit that's bad news.... My wife hit a pothole in her Ka last week.. She was taking Amelia to her swimming lesson at the other side of Bradford. When she came out she noticed the wheel was buckled and the tyre flat. The spare was flat too.... She rang the RAC but her phone ran out of credit before she got through. So she rang me. I went over with with a wheel off an Anglia to get her mobile again. When fitting it I noticed the rear wheel was buckled too. Went to the scrappers at the weekend, and they only had two spare wheels from a Ka as they bend so easily.
antz Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 that sucks! still its good you got a discount! i never think to haggle
johnny_h Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Unlucky dude. This is why I have a £500 fiesta as an everyday driver. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
Mr Sam Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 bugger boss' truck rolled down his drive and took out a wall, £12k to fix the truck alone and new ones are fitted with tacho's and govenors so kinda dont want it written off
FredTransit Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Stuff that, maybe you should look for another anglebox to have as a daily driver. No cats and oxygen sensors in them.....
over_head_cam Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Just a thought, who 'owns' the pothole. If it's a local council, they usually cough up if it's their fault.
sambo Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Just a thought, who 'owns' the pothole. If it's a local council, they usually cough up if it's their fault. Just what i was gonna say. If the roads are that bad, then its their repair bill surely?
Seals2 Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 mate i work for ford and st170 suffer with the cats breaking!!! alot of people get a bluefin cat rather than another standard ford one as the bracket at the back of the engine snaps all the time. hego sesnor no 2 always goes as well so the pot hole may have jus help break the parts.

Just what i was gonna say. If the roads are that bad, then its their repair bill surely? It was a private road leading to an industrial estate. Used to be a railway track so was really cobbly. Just hit it in the right place to smack the cat.
