Admin Vista Posted March 25, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 25, 2008 Well VW have done it with the Beetle and have a new Scirroco on the books, BMW's new mini continues to fly out of the door, Fiat have the retro looking 500 and Ford have the latest generation Mustang selling like hot cakes. Now reports in Germany claim Ford is preparing a new Capri concept to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original ’69 Ford Capri Mark 1. The concept may eventually be turned into a new mk4 version around 2012. The thing is anything that's reinvented really has to succeed financially as well as in terms of looks and generally that means keeping costs down by utilising existing parts i.e. the Focus floorpan. Well I reckon I can live with that as the Focus handles pretty well and this looks good (oh and it's orange )
sab6024 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I'm not too sure whether I like it from the photos I like the lines and the orange but I'm not struck on the front end To me it says Puma
Lardy Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Now I would be one of the first in the queue for the new Capri but they should take note a bit more from the new mustang as from those pics its a little too far away from the original shape whereas the fiat500 looks like an old 500 and the mustang looks like the old mustang and so on and so on.

Totaly agree. If you never said it was a capri you would never no it was one. Unlike the new mini, beetle, mustang ect... They should take and use some oldskool features.
john_3.0s Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 thats got none of the GT looks the capri ever had, more like a new puma
over_head_cam Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 To me it looks like the love child of a KA and a chrysler Crossfire. Not my cup of tea really, I quite like the £D renderinngs on the other site, but maybe it's a little too retro? A competition between designers would be good
Copey Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 thats got none of the GT looks the capri ever had, more like a new puma thats exactly what i thought!!
lee_capri Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 no dont like that sorry their will be only one
Jubfab Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Theres been numerous talk of a new Capri over the years - so i'll believe it when it's in the showroom. Problem with Ford europe is they don't appear to be interested in it's heritage so I can't see em doing out retro thats deserved of the good ol Capri. Unlike the Mini, Fiat 500, Mustang, Charger etc etc. They all have a retro look about em which this does not. Looks more like a retro Ford Couger !! Still looks alright but not with a Capri badge on it .... well thats me two penneth worth ..
tazrocks88 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 thats like a mix between a focus a puma and a civic Theres been numerous talk of a new Capri over the years - so i'll believe it when it's in the showroom. Admin Vista Posted March 25, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted March 25, 2008 no dont like that sorry their will be only one There's already been 2 mk1 variants, a mk2 and a mk3 so there's been 3.5 by my count Edit: - 4.5 if you include the Classic Capri
lee_capri Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 well has i remember rightly thinking but wer'nt the probe suspose to have been the capri replacement but did'nt catch on,if you ask me the couger is more in the line's of a new capri has it has power and dont look to bad, have thought about buying one my self, but their is no way id go for the above not my idea of a sport's car
oliwally Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: Does FORD ever wonder why the Mustang is selling so fast and in large numbers? Its looks almost like the first one,its powered by a noisey engine,is rear wheel drive. We hate the modern dull computer-designed-so-therefore-better-and-safer styling and cheaper-to-produce-but-we'll-pretend-its-safer front wheel drive shiiiiite. Why cant the have the balls to produce a MK1 or 3 Capper copy like our cousins over the pond?? lets have a mk1 mexico/mk2 rs2000 and capri remade!!!!

BMW have and nobodys shouting for a 4x4 M3 are they
oliwally Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 only thing that needs addressing if they ever did a mk4 capri is to get nearer a 50% weight balance, capris are a little light on the rear end
lee_capri Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 no i do think their should be a 4x4 option runing at leat v8 twin turbo and you would need the 4x4 then and traction control for the wet time's and use all year round, one of my mate's has a skyliner and it will blow my v8 away on top end and it handle's very well if you want to be a contender you have think along the same line's
mk2 stu Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Fiat 500, beetle, gt40, mustang, dodge charger all been updated perfectly but within the original silhouettes, that looks nothing like a capri, come on ford get it right!!
oliwally Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 no i do think their should be a 4x4 option runing at leat v8 twin turbo and you would need the 4x4 then and traction control for the wet time's and use all year round, one of my mate's has a skyliner and it will blow my v8 away on top end and it handle's very well if you want to be a contender you have think along the same line's But,the M3 and M5 are some of the best handling cars and they do look good for a modern car, they do everything that we'd want a new capri or escort to do without a turbo or 4x4. Take the E30,its a great drivers car,one of the best is a 318is. you take its replacement the E36 318is,more powerful and fatter, has a "better" rear suspension design but lacks the fun. You can have too much of something........except sex
lee_capri Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 im looking in-to the skylinner power unit at the mo has it is compatiable to go with a capri,if you cant beat them join them
stephens_xpack Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Totally agree with everything already said. Thats not a new Capri it just has the name - looks nothing like a Capri. Do it proper or not at all - so we know what that'll be then.
Admin Vista Posted March 25, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted March 25, 2008 I'd say it looks like a capri, it has a long bonnet, short rump, flared arches and a wide muscular stance. Whilst I'll give you the Fiat and the Beetle as modern look a likes, surely the object should be a good modern interpretation of the same design features without actually just looking like the same car in a modern frock (a la MGRV8). I'd also prefer a modern interpretation of the capri that was fast and handled well to a lookalike that looked like a curvy Mk3 but had cart horse suspension (like the Mustang) and a lazy V8 which unless you buy the mega spec one is fairly poorly powered for it's enormous displacement. The Mustang for instance looks nothing like the original Mustang but retains the same design cues and ideas. The same can be said for the new mini.
bortaf Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I like the car, i can see hints of capri in it but TBH if i hadn't been told or saw the capri picture below i would have said "is that the new puma" Not a capri in my mind, needs more capri in the mix less corperate front end, remember how that coperate front end killed the granada
Capripete Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Looks like a mongrel cross of a puma, ka and focus. Yuk!
