It's abot more than just the engine though, assuming you're looking at fully comp quotes, with values being what they are a 2 door 1300 escort is more expensive for them to replace than a bigger engined granada or capri.

Also imagine how many young 'uns have caused accidents in their Escorts in the last 40yrs.. or even had them knicked...

With young drivers they take into account how much damage that vehicle could do. Big car, high premium!

i find exactly the opposite m8 i i went from an e30 bmw 316 to a e34 520i and the insurance went down bigger car same age bigger engine ... lower premium ...

and can get insurance for 860 on a 3.2 straight six jag but over 1000 is the cheapest quote i could get for a mk2 scort ...

I had a cheaper quote for THREE transits than one Mk2 Granada, and one of the vans was a V6 essex! Go figure....

quote for the escy was on a 4 door mk2 1300 L of 1980 vintage (I like 4 doors btw  ) and the granada was a 1970 odd mk1 estate with a 3.0 v6 ( I also like estates  ) If I could actually afford the insurence I'd go for it, but seeing as its around £2200 I might give it a miss
