surfingturnip Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 that I seem capable of getting insurence quotes for a 1300 escort that are in fact more expensive than those for 2.8i and 3.0 mk2 and 1 granadas?
escortmad79 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 What he said!! Mk1 Escort Mexico to insure £600+ Mk1 Fiesta XR2 £400 Same sized engine!
surfingturnip Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 surely its daft that it would cost me pretty much the same for a 3.0 as a 1300 though, irrispective of what car its in?
Admin Vista Posted April 23, 2008 Admin Report Posted April 23, 2008 It's abot more than just the engine though, assuming you're looking at fully comp quotes, with values being what they are a 2 door 1300 escort is more expensive for them to replace than a bigger engined granada or capri.
NHR115 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Dont they also take into account how desirable they are to thiefs?
RFChris Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 With young drivers they take into account how much damage that vehicle could do. Big car, high premium!
Stu_B Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Also imagine how many young 'uns have caused accidents in their Escorts in the last 40yrs.. or even had them knicked...
Messenjah Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 With young drivers they take into account how much damage that vehicle could do. Big car, high premium! i find exactly the opposite m8 i i went from an e30 bmw 316 to a e34 520i and the insurance went down bigger car same age bigger engine ... lower premium ... and can get insurance for 860 on a 3.2 straight six jag but over 1000 is the cheapest quote i could get for a mk2 scort ...
FredTransit Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 With young drivers they take into account how much damage that vehicle could do. Big car, high premium! I had a cheaper quote for THREE transits than one Mk2 Granada, and one of the vans was a V6 essex! Go figure....
surfingturnip Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 quote for the escy was on a 4 door mk2 1300 L of 1980 vintage (I like 4 doors btw ) and the granada was a 1970 odd mk1 estate with a 3.0 v6 ( I also like estates ) If I could actually afford the insurence I'd go for it, but seeing as its around £2200 I might give it a miss
