Capriman Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Hi has anyone got any ideas where I can get a decent wiring diagram , I have got the haynes and autodata manuals but they are not much cop. The problem I have is (just had the car fully restored and re-painted, it's stripped out for track days/hill climbing) when I connect the battery the right indicators come on and stay on. I've replaced the hazard switch and indicator relay as I thought they were at fault and checked all the earths. all other electicts work ie, lights wipers and washers and fuel relay works. any ideas ? or where I can get a decent wiring diagram would be very much appreciated.
Admin Vista Posted May 2, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 2, 2008 Do you mean it comes on and flashes or just stays lit? And by indicator realy do you mean the flasher unit? I'd start by looking at the connections on the stalk switch and the condition of the stalk switch itself.
radar tech Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I'd start by looking at the connections on the stalk switch and the condition of the stalk switch itself. as above , get out your test light / multimeter and start at the stalk then the relay inputs and outputs
Capriman Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 Thanks for the advise...Stalk switch is okay, the indicator light just comes on and stays on, when I depress the hazard switch (also a new switch) all 4 indicators come on and stay on. my mate who races a MKII escy autox and I have been over pretty much everything. will have to go over it all again before looking for a vehicle electrician I guess ! bit of a mystery really !
borneo Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I had all sorts of wiring problems with mine but I couldn't get a wiring diagram anywhere. Got through it in the end with what I could get out of the haynes ones (The GT ones are the closest), a multimeter and an age of trial and error. Practical Classics is doing a three part rewire your car article. I haven't had time to read the first one yet but it's still in the shops and might be of use.
radar tech Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 do your indicators and hazards use the same relay or are they separate ones? the fact that the hazards are not flashing would make me suspect the hazard relay wiring maybe at fault (if a new relay has been fitted.) dis all the wires to the relay and start again..only connect the 12v / earth & and switch control. listen if the relay clicking. At the same time see if your indicator is stuck on solid. if not it gotta be the output wiring for the hazard relay. use your test light to check the relay outputs when hazards are on i hope this makes sense if it dont pm me and will try to explain better
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 If your bodywork has been repainted, check all the mounting points for ALL the earth connectors. All earthing points must be to clean unprotected metal... no paint or rust. Once you have done this, protect the earthing points with some copper grease
