POLICE FOUND MY CAPRI ON THE 1/5/08 AT NORTH PROSPECT, IT SEEMED THAT JOY RIDERS HAD USED IT AND DUMPED IT, BUT CAME BACK 2 DAYS LATER TO TAKE MY TOOLS AND STEREO AND TO SET A LIGHT THE ROOF LINING BEFORE DOING A RUNNER, THE TOTAL DAMAGE OF MY CAR WAS: BROKEN LOCKS, IGNITION BARREL BROKEN, ROOF LINING BURNT, TOPS OF THE 2 FRONT SEATS BURNT, ALL GLASS SMOKED AND BURNT ROOF. THE POLICE SAID THAT I AM LUCKY BECAUSE IF THE GLASS HAD SMASHED THEN THE WHOLE CAR WOULD HAD BEEN DESTROID IN THE FIRE. I'M GLAD TO HAVE IT BACK BUT I HOPE THE INSURANCE WILL HELP TO REPAIR IT INSTEAD OF WRIGHTING IT OFF.

 

MANY THANKS TO MEMBERS OF KEEPING A LOOK OUT

PICTURES OF DAMAGE WILL BE PUT ON WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS

Glad you got it back, be careful with the insurance. Do not let them 'store' the car, keep it yourself if you can. Do not accept the first offer, and if it's written off (likely) don't let them record it less than cat D.

I know Pauls car and with the value of Mk1 Capris being what it is, personally I can't see them writing it off. Glad you found it mate, good luck with the insurance company.

Do you HAVE to use insurance to do this mate? all it does is push everyones premiums up and yours more so, if it was me i would honestly use S/H parts, prob about 100 quid id say, if you claim you will prob find your premiums go up by that much anyway.

 

glad you got it back though, havent heard of a capri being taken for a long while now.

Whats point of having insurance if not going to use it for a genuine claim, now you have started the wheels moving it will go against you anyway so follow it thru and dont worry about what others say,

maybe the point is my yearly renewals are under £90 for fully comprehensive cover including windscreen cover, breakdown recovery and full salvage rights ...

 

sure ive had to shell out twice, once for a broken qtr light, and once for a lock set but i think the savings speak for themselves.

 

i should also warn you that if the insurance do write it off, which is quite possible based on the fact that parts are no longer available they will give you "market value" which in thier terms is nothing like what its worth in the real world, on top of that the car instantly becomes thier propperty as soon as you accept payment, the car will then go to a local scrap yard (which these companies work very closely with) and more than likely be scrapped, seen this happen too many times now, its possible that you could buy the car back from the scrap merchants if you get there quick enough but dont hold your breath, with scrap at 90 quid a ton these yards dont hang about.

 

the moral of the story is think twice when it comes to classics and dealing with insurance companies, they dont have the "passion" for these cars like we do.

Exactly, that's what I was talking about. No such thing as a free repair.

just did a search for them on the net, aldridge for the trim bits who are pretty much the only one i could get prices from so you may be able to get them a bit cheaper elsewhere. unfortunatly even with capri's now decent secondhand stuff is hard to find even more so than escorts i would say, you try getting good secondhand seats for a mk1 capri my neighbour has been looking for several months now :shock:

Shame that the wastes of space who nicked it have damaged it though :sad:

Sorry to hear about your car Paul, glad you got it back tho, hope to see it on the road again soon 8)
