mk1rob Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Got my 7x13 rs 4 spokes fitted today. Bit of a bugger to fit as all the wheel studs were too long to begin with and for some reason one of them wouldnt fit over the center of the drum on the back. Also fitted some 2" lowering block so it sits great on the back now. By the time id finnished it was too dark for photos so ill put some up tomorrow. Been out for a quick spin and im suprised how differently it drives! I knew the acceleration would be a bit quicker due to changing from 185/60s to 175/50s but it makes loads of difference! Seems to kick the back end out alot easier too which isnt a bad thing
Toby Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Take it easy on new tyres mate, they're slippery for the first few miles. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
mk1rob Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 Ok heres the pics: From this: To this: Does this look right to everyone? Also fitted the ally door cards: Comments welcome, good or bad!
mk2escortmad Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 looks sweet mate nice one i dont know if im wrong but on the close up on your lowering block, isnt there supposed to be a rubber bit on top of the actual block itself????
mk1 kev Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 that looks grate mate does the rear wheels rub the arch? how much gap you got?
mk1rob Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 bumblebee - It had 1" blocks on it before with no rubber bit so i just replaced the blocks as it was. I was reading in one of the mags on how to fit lowering blocks and it said you could leave the rubber bit out if you want. mk1kev - No it doesnt seem to rub at all to be honest. Havn't measured the gap, think its just over an inch(ish). The only thing that hits the floor every so often is the mudflaps. Cheers for all the comments!
Tom Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 those rubber bit are the bump stops mate and should always be fitted. If you lower the car you're moving the axle closer to the body, making it easier for the axle to hit the body. Be interesting to know what mag said it'd be ok to leave those off
marky4 Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 looks spot on when i swopped from 185's to 175's found it handles alot better (in the dry that is)
ban1216 Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I think he was refering to the rubber pieces that go between the leaf spring and the block But it does need the bumpstops fitting back on really with it being 2 inches lower put a couple of people in the back and things could get interesting
mk1rob Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 It was Classic Ford mag no.126 (the Escort addiction one). Ive just read its the spring plates and rubbers you can leave out or put back in. So your right, it should have the bump stops that go above the axel fitted. However, if you look at the before and after pics of it in the mag, you'll see the bumpstops arn't fitted after they've lowered it Anywho, Ill have to try and source some bumpstops. Thanks for the tips! Ban1216 - I wont be having anyone in the back mate : Thanks for the comments!
