Can you still get new numberplates that are metal with the raised plastic letters?

Not the modern plates on all modern cars or pressed steel ones.

I mean the ones that the escorts come with originally like below:

I think your mate had raised lettering. Im after ones that are metal but have the chunky plastic letting on them like ford originally did.

Illeagal

Surely not. :?

Not illegal on cars of the right age, just as black and silver plates are legal on anything from 72 or before (L plate is the last one you can legally wear them on)

I don't know whether to replace my original metal & plastic ones with some "modern" plates. The back one is fine but the front has stone chips in it. All I need is the reflective metal part & then CAREFULLY take the old letters off. Will wait until I feel brave.

I got some new backs made up for mine and just transfered the letters over. I drilled the new plates using the old ones as a template.

The company who made the backs was called Simpsons (in Stoke I think) and they charged £20 for the two inc. delivery.

Tel: Simpson & Co

01782 212705

They also supplied me with the clips to hold the Letters in place.

The bevel round the edge isn`t the same as the originals and i wasn`t blown away by the quality, but now I have put the numbers and letters on they look good.

They are available with black or polished ally surround, i went for the polished to match the original.

mines covered by stone chips and has started to look worse for wear.( the letters are fine its just the plate)
