For the MOT, can i just have the Chassis number stamped in a visible place and it'll be ok?? just on a bit of alloy riveted somewhere?

do they even check.? if they ask tell them its restored and chasis number is long gone

i dont think it needs to be easily visible. on mk4 escort i think its under the interior carpet by the drivers seat

there has to be a vin on it somewhere otherwise anyone could get an MOT on a car and just swap the num plates over....of course in reality its not difficult to move a chassis plate on one of these old cars.

 

The mot er will check the vin as he needs the number to input into the magical (and very slow) 'puter systm they have to use now days

early capri`s had them stamped on the strut top as well,and i had a repair panel put on by an mot station and it went through

you dont need the chassis No on the shell but you do need a VIN plate

Yep pre 1980 do not need a full VIN plate. Try one of these
