I've noticed the difference, both home and work.

The shopping and Gas / Electric is silly money now and being mainly a mobile Auto spark it's hitting me hard with the fuel prices.

Being self employed and fitting mainly "toys" to vehicles it's one of the 1st things that being stop buying.

The only thing that's good is people are starting to hang onto their older car, which in turn has break downs which i can go and fix instead.

I have also noticed people are looking out for older "cheap" cars as the finance company put up their prices , so i'm shifting a few Saxo's, Corsa's etc them being better to run then the bigger family cars, although it's not my trade as such it keeps some money coming in !!!

My mate owns a bike/ cycle shop and he's had to take on extra staff, people are getting their bikes out the shed to get to work, or he's selling new ones, he thinks people just can't afford to put fuel in the car any longer.

As always, recession means that most people are hit, but there's always some one who benefits.

To be honest at this exact moment in time no, I am sick of seeing things on the news about people being in "Poverty" and the "Credit crunch"

The only people who are really suffering are the low earners who overstretched themselves when credit was being handed out to people who really shouldn't be trusted with it.

Its shit that commodities are rising so fast but thats what happens when a country goes into recession........

technically it is our fault as it's people not spending that casues prices to go up... (don't kill me) but in reality it's the governments fault for not seeing it commin! bleedin Brown was the financial minister before he was in office!

in america, Bush gave everyone 100 dollars to spend, in theory pumping millions into the economy as it was a 'windfall gain' and efectivly bump startin it again!

i feel for those out of work due to the recession, seen many builders, joiners and the likes out of work now due to the downturn in the housing market meaning less and less new builds are going up

i must say though im not feeling any of the credit crunch as yet, yes i have credit but its all payable, the shitter for me is im sat in a house thats possibly in negative equity, but the downturn will turn around and this recession will pick up we just have to wait it out

i suppose im lucky people dont stop crashing cars so my job looks safe, whats going to really get me annoyed is by the end of the year paying £2 for a litre of diesel just to get to work

Lets be honest, it is mainly down to people who live/lived beyond thier means, getting loans for the new car that they think they deserved and the expensive Pc and mobile phone contract, the store cards etc.

Fooking winds me up, look at the older generation, people were lucky to have just one car to a family, an old banger. Not a car that gets renewed every 3 years cos its 'old' after that and people wouldnt be seen dead in a car thats not brand new.

I know several people who are thousands of pounds in debt and they have nothing to show for it except huge mobile bills and debts from a car they could never afford had they not borrowed it.

Now, i have borrowed money to re-paint my car but it was from my mum and she is in no rush for it really.

Fooks me off. People think they deserved these expensive things just cos they are available through finance and now they just get their debt written off.

It took me ages to get onto the property ladder 2 years ago, mortgaged up to the eyebrows and now i am facing negative equity. So i could be stuck in my 1 bed flat for a long time to come. Soon, i want kids etc, how can we do that in a 1 bed flat!?!?

Everything about this makes me soooo angry. Grrr.

Yes i think its hitting hard now . I"ve gone on to doing a night trunk now , just so i can share the Wifes car instead of running 2 cars . The Wagon only gets used at the weekends now , if at all

Food bills are ridiculous , the Wife normally spends between £50-£80 a week on food etc , and comes back with about 10 shopping bags ....now , the same amount of money but half the bags

Fuel is ridiculous . Petrol is a joke....what is this country / the World trying to do to us , send us back to the dark ages ? I put 350 litres of diesel @ 140.9 a litre in the truck last night....£540.00 :evil: Think yourself lucky you haven"t got trucks to run :D

Its only going to get worse before it gets any better....and as for that cock Brown.....anyone got a gun :lol::lol:

I know I'm only a bubba at 19, but I'd like my own place soon-but it is just so difficult.

Me and Dean are in no financial state to get a mortgage and I refuse to rent! I see it as dead money

I don't want kiddies, so at least it will just be me and dean to feed etc which will keep costs down, but only by a bit

I'm currently off work atm on long term sickness due to my back op, so I receive statutory sick pay (£77 per week)

I have no real luxuries, just my cars (only one of which is on the road) and I'm finding it hard just affording that.

Petrol prices are rediculous atm, but it still works out cheaper to use my car then hop on a bus.

To be honest there is not a lot we can do,

food wise I'd just suggest buying supermarket own products as aposed to branded items

I feel for so many people that are struggling right now :big hug:

I'm feeling it at work too. The cost of fuel is crippling us who have to use our cars for work. I do 30,000 miles a year in my job and the fuel price is going up faster than our mileage pay  We've had 2 mileage rises since December and it's only now covering what we use for work  I bought the Fezza for work because the Scorpio was far too big and I've also noticed some other Carers in my Area have bought older cars too

I can't afford to "just pop to the shops" anymore, if I need anything, I'll get it when I'm at work. Luckily I've got my debts sorted so don't have Credit Cards or Store Cards anymore but I do feel for the people who have these to pay as well as their everyday living costs.

But also like most young people today, I can't afford to buy my own place, I'm renting a room in a large house with the use of all the facilities and it's pretty cheap too but my landlord who owns a building supplies company has told me that things are really bad for him at work. He's had to put all his staff onto 3 day weeks and he's not taking anything for himself. So I can see my rent going up soon too :(

cant believe someone said on this said that its only people on low incomes who are feeling the pinch you have got to be kidding me im on a good wage and yes im able to pay bills and buy food for the month but cant remember the last time i went for a beer or bought my self some decent clobber so behave with comments like that and dont be a plum it will come to you unless of course you still live with mum or are a single fella

it's pretty shit commin out of uni in debt and then into a credit crisis... i'm so poor i don't think my beloved capri will see any treats till next year at this rate!

the only people who benefit from this are accountants... my mum is marketing like mad as she made loads from the recession in the 90's!

if you live in the south and need a good accountant....

yes it's people spending what they don't have, but it's also cos people arn't spending at the mo...

it's essentially a slow down in the economy... catch 22 sort of affair... people are spending less cos everything gets more expensive so prices go up more... it's going to keep escalating till one or the other levels off!

Tell me something Cyrix just out of interest, are you a single bloke still living at home with no children?

Posted

No, I have a £135,000 mortgage.

I live with my partner, she is a teacher, I work in IT.

No kids, maybe shortly, I personally wouldn't want to bring any kids into this kind of world but thats an argument for another day.

Joint incomes around £55,000, monthly outgoings are around £1400, do the math.......yes, things are going up in price, but we have plenty of slack in our budget, thus, I am not feeling the effects of the "Credit Crunch" currently.

Anything else?

Ahhh, Okay. Well I am a single parent with 2 children aged 13 and 11. I have a 3 bed average sized house for the South of England (Hampshire) with a mortgage of £178,000 which costs me £854.00 per month just for the mortgage repayment, I work full-time so that my children can go to youth club once a week and go to the cinema occasionally and I earn £27k. I run a small diesel Astra which is worth £600 and I have my RS for week-ends. I have home insurance, car insurance, life insurance.

I have SKY TV and poll tax of £104 per month.

My shopping bill is around £80 per week for basic food.

I do not sponge off the state and only get my child benefit which is £110 per month and £43 per month for tax credits.

And YES, I am feeling the credit crunch but not because I have borrowed beyond my means thank you very much

You are lucky to have good joint income. Come back to me and tell me how you are getting on when you have a couple of kids and your partner goes back to work part-time so your income is much reduced and your house prices go up as high as ours down South ... until then, keep your narrow minded opinions to yourself on why people are feeling the credit crunch

Posted

I wouldn't say my opinons are narrow minded, people are living on the limit of what they can afford with little slack to take up the difference, it's not a good situation for anyone but what can you do?

If my comments offend then I apologise.

true jo (don't get mad at me for this) but it is other people spending beyond their means is more what cyrix means i think. you are just in the unfortunate bracket of those who get affected the worst by this! - and house prices are tumbling in hampshire at the moment (still feckin high tho)... don't know if thats good or bad for you, cos if you wana buy then it's that little bit easier but if you were sat on 300,000 in assets on a house then it becomes £250,000, your kinda stuck
