im looking to throw a bigger motor in my escy over the winter, was thinking of goin the cossie turbo route, what do you reckon it would cost doing the absoloute bare minimum to get it up and running including the price of the motor. brakes, suspension and axle are all upto the job so i should'nt have to spend there.

im not after a 1000000bhp, just a nice balance between power and everyday usability/reliability

iv looked at xe's which i know will probably be cheaper, but i really want to keep it ford

i wouldnt say that much unless you buy a full car to get the bits off

you need engine, gearbox, prop, enginebay wireing loom, and sump making to fit.

my m8s doing a cossie escort at the moment

engine being the dearest at about £1000 - £2000

You are of course forgetting the minimum £1000 for brakes & suspension and the cost of labour... That is aside from the fact that you'd have to be a complete wally to put in an engine that hadn't had new rings, shells etc fitted to be on the safe side.

I'm sure that jon, Kev & thge rest of the guys would agree with me, 5k is a reasonably conservative estimate

as i said in my first post, suspension, brakes and axle are already more than upto the job of a cossie

Sorry mate - missed that but i still say 4k for buying engine, basic rebuild, fresh oil for box & engine, possible remap, new exhaust, swirl pot, etc etc. then of course any labour. Only my opinion but I'm sure 4parajon would say something similar and he should know.

Late model Mondeo or Focus 2 ltr would be worth fitting, mate it up to a 6 speed mazda mx6 box then were talking an easy 200+ with an aftermarket ECU and little else, OR be different, Focus/Mondeo 2l tdci, chipped up I think 300ft/lbs of torque is easily available, now that would accellerate well. especially if you take into account the focus weighs nearly twice as much as a escort!!!!

you could this on a tight budget,if you are only going 260hp(ish) you could it for under 3 grand i reckon.motor, box, loom etc 1500 to 2000,princess 4 pots, rebush and a panhard rod.that will cope imo.stick more power up its arse and wider tyres then you will break things and it will start costing

This I think depends on 2 things.

1) are you intending to do the work yourself

2) how lucky you are in buying an engine & box

Obviously your labour costs nothing if your doint it yourself but if you want someone to do it for you your looking at £12 - £1500 I reckon.

If your lucky and you pick up a decent non hammered engine & box, not only would I consider you lucky but I would be asking you to pick my lottery numbers for Saturday night as well :lol:

cossie motors with boxes are going for about £2k now and with a standard re-build costing about the same again I would think.

If I was you I would start saving and pay for the motor to be re-built to avoid dissapointment.

somet id love to do too but all i hear about cossies are 'this bits blown up, cant get it working' etc etc

its a bit off putting when you consider the price of the parts :?

there has to be cheaper non ford options

rick they only starting getting unreliable when you modd the fook out of um and thrash them constantly tbh,you could rag a cossie motor with around 260/280 hp all day without any problems again imo

yes but he saids he had brakes susspension etc and i was meaning as what my mate did he got a running cossie turbo motor which he saw running drove it and seen reciepts etc maybe he fell lucky but it wasnt 5k and we are fitting it our selfs so no labour costs involved

sorry i thought he was planning on fitting it himself too

my mate got all the exhaust and wireing loom etc swirl pot and he already had the sump and he got his gear box for £100 extra

like i say maybe he fell lucky but thats what it cost him we just waiting for the shell to be finished then opainted then we can put it together

my Saff was an ex Castle Performance car running t34, green injectors, 3 bar map sensor, Iveco/RS500 intercooler, ahmed bayoo chip, not sure on the horses but it was the quickest car I've had, spat flames and spun the wheels in 3rd, I ragged it from the day I got it to the day I sold it 2 yrs later and it never missed a beat with regular Castrol RS and the proper plugs... i'll bet its not alive now though

i am planning of fitting it myself mate  and i think my brakes and suspension would be up to the job, i dont want 1000000bhp, a standard cossie turbo motor in a mk1 is plenty, cossie saph's arnt slow so that motor in a lighter car would be plenty, whats the point of having shit loads of power when all you do is spin it away through a set of 195 tyres.
