cisco24uk Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Last week I spoke to the guy who is doing the engine rebuild on my capri and he said it had been out for a test drive which had thrown up a few problems but it will be ready for the 19th. Took wed,thurs, friday afternoons off to go up there and help him got up there only to find he wasn't there so I rang his mobile and it was turned off, texted him and heard nothing the then speaking to the guys opposite his workshop they tell me he is dodging debt collectors he has had several letters from people threatening to sue for work that wasn't done and to top it off my car hasn't left the workshop and when they saw it it didn't even have the engine in it. So now what do I do my car is locked in his workshop with the possibility of being seized by the bayliffs for levy against his debts.

But some of the guys offered me an angle grinder to take out the hinges but need a trailer and something to pull it with it get it home.

Have you paid him any money up front for any of this work? I's seek proper advice before you do anything rash (i.e. angle grinders etc)

Thats exactly what to do, take the scumbag by the throat too, threaten to burn his place down or something then phone the cops and say you saw him do it, wouldn't be the first time someone with cashflow probs has done an insurance job, that would screw him up for a while

Whooooa! It would be bad enough that he had the car ans bailiffs could have an interest in it (all be it wrongly) But if the V5 is in the car you have no way of proving it's yours. It could even be seen as the car does actually belong to him, he just hadn't registered it yet. Apply for another one NOW and when it arrives get down to the garage and get your car back. If the bailiffs take it as his property you will have a struggle to get it back without the V5.

The land owner is not the tenant, for instance if you were living in rented accomodation, your landlord would not have the right to give someone else permission to enter your home.

For instance, a landlord can give a commercial tenant 24 hours notice to quit and after 24 hours get an eviction order. Wit domestic tenants notice to quit is a term of rent (the period of time between payments) then they have to get an eviction order, which is harder to acquire with individuals.
Scott W Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 I suggest you need to be there when the baliffs go there, if any turn up, I have been down this road and got in too more trouble when , shall I dare say made my own way into the property to get my car back, as i was nearly charged with Buglary for getting my own car back. The landlord cant evict the tenant unless a court order is made, this can take up too a month last one I had to get one done. I would go down and report to the local Fuzz make sure you get an incident number and hand them a copy of your log book.

He ended up stuffing the Capri into a brick wall and CRAP had it for the best part of 2 years putting it right. Steer well clear Good luck

I was happy enough with the quality of work but it did take fooking ages for it to get finished. My car was in the workshop for nearly a year for a job that i was told would take about 8-10 weeks. So i try to do as much work on my car myself nowdays.

brettp Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 wondered when this pricks name would come up he built an engine for me took forever charged me for dyno time when it was taken apart it had never been started it had the wrong rods crank pistons fly wheel was to big for the bell housing carb was f......ed and the head had an odd valve he built a roll cage for my mate out of barrell tube and charged for cds everything he did on my car with very few exceptions i have had to change and my mate has cut all his work out of his car as it was so bad
