I was pulled over a few years ago on New Years Morning (about 6:00am). One thing they kept saying was to keep my hands out of my pockets. It was a freezing cold morning, and I didn't understand why they were so blunt. But as they explained, I could have been going for a knife or a gun, so their paranoia (for want of a better word) was understandable.

Hands in pockets?? Try having a gun stuck in your ear!

Traffic cops only have a job to do like the rest of us, given some can be a bit pissy at times but if you have nothing to hide then let him or her get on with it. I got pulled up that meny times in my old MK2 it was getting to be a joke but they all soon come to turms with the fact that my car was 100% legal and left me alone in the end.

small minded quotes from small minded people. don't get me started.

You can say that all you want but you wont change my mind.

Yes, i know theyre not all bad, infact most are genuine people, but they are out there. As far as im concerned i dont trust a single one UNTIL ive spoken to him and i can gauge his attitude. You dont know if the one pulling you over is a nice guy or not.

Unfortunately i dont remember ever having a good experience with a police officer. Theyve always come across as arrogant even when completely unnessecary and theyve never once helped me.

Its quite clear to me that the ones in that car where infact scum. If they had pulled him over and advised him, or just ignored him altogether, then i wouldnt think that.

But i agree that being cheeky is asking for it. Theyll even see answering back as cheeky, even if you dont mean it to be. They have to deal with it all the time and im sure even the good ones get fed up sometimes.

Exactly what I was going to say  You only have to live round my way or watch those Police programmes on the telly to see the attitude they get from down & outs on the street.

what i was going to say. how many of you would stay calm if faced with some 17 yeay old mouthing off in your face? i know i wouldn't. i have respect for the police who can deal with people like that. te traffic cops are there to take illegal cars and drivers off the roads so that it's safer for everyone.

sounds to me the only run ins you've hadwith the police is when you're doing something you shouldn't be. I may be wrong but then again i might not be.

My overtake was perfectly legal as the police car (unmarked was doing )about 20 mph coming off a roundabout onto a perfectly straight and clear road with a national speed limit sign probably topped out at 50 mph and slowed for the next roundabout

Even the policeman said i had done nothing wrong other than draw attention to myself

FFS i drive a bright orange mark 2 with black stripes over the top

as my wife keeps telling me i draw attention to myself when i am sat still

Got to be honest though he wouldnt off caught me in his diesel corsa if i hadnt stopped

No, i never said theyre all scum in the first place. No idea where you got that from. If ive edited that post at all, which i do often after rereading them its for spelling mistakes, not to change something ive said.

The three main run ins ive had with the police have proven to me what some are like.

The first was when we were about 16, riding our bikes on the pavement. A random police car pulled us up and asked us to stop riding on the pavement. So we did. Once we got closer home, up a little barely used sidestreet we carried on riding but on the road. All of a sudden they pulled up from behind and shouted i told you to get off those. I did, but my friend said that we werent doing any harm. So one of them got out the car, dragged him off the bike, threw him in the car, without a word, and then told me to take his bike home. Thats just excessively over the top.

The next time i was out in town having a drink. I got a bit lost from my friends so decided to go get the nightbus home. On the way three lads come up to me with a knife trying to mug me. I told them to go fook themself and one of them hit me in the face 4 times then all ran away. By the time i got to the nearest bobby my face and shirt were covered in blood. What did he say? 'well, what do you want me to do, just go and get the bus home' I never told him they hadnt got anything. But what if theyd taken all my stuff? Hedve just fooked me off.

The next time a car pulled out on my and i nearly hit him because he didnt even look. So i beeped and gave him the finger and carried on my buisness. When i look in the mirror hes turning around in a road he just shouldnt be, then pulls alongside and shows me his badge. I pulled over and he starts threatening to beat me up etc etc. That night, at about 12 o clock ( i was in bed, im up early in the mornings everyday) he turns up in a police car trying to do me for speeding, dangerous driving, abusive langauge and public order, even though i had only commited public order, and he had just covered the whole lot.

How much respect would you have for them if that happened? Im not some scally kid who hangs round street corners, drinking and smashing windows. I have a job, i abide by the rules, i dont even drive silly that often.

i copied and pasted the quote straight from your post!!!!!

What people don't see is all the 'real' work the police are doing and all the 'real' criminals they are catching just because its not plastered all over the news doesn't mean people aren't being caught.

You are not a 'real' criminal therfore you only ever have run ins with the police when in cars.

Just something else to whinge about.

If you think about what your saying before you say it you won't piss people off - i think you realised that and thats why you changed your post.

I would stay calm. Why? Because I'm probably more intelligent and certainly more experienced than the average young PC. I also know that it will matter not whether I'm innocent and it will matter not whether I'm right, if I antagonise him further then it will be me that ends up in trouble.

Like the rest of you, I also grimace when I get a speeding ticket drop on the mat and curse the unfairety of the system that allows muggers a smack on the wrist or community service when 6 points on my licence will cost me far more over the five years they stay there. BUT I would not for a second entertain the idea of living in a country with a genuinely corrupt police force or worse no police force at all.

So let's leave this thread as there are good police officers and bad ones just as there are good and bad people at their job in every other walk of life. Who here hasn't been screwed over by a dodgy tradesman or given shonky service by a crap garage at some point in their lives? Yet I don't see anyone claiming "all plumbers are scum" or "all mechanics are rip off artists".
