evil knievel Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 trying to get the steering wheel out of my Ford, it's the three spoke one. i'm sure you know what i mean! i popped out the ford logo and rubber surround, undid the nut, and the wheel wouldn't pull off. ok i thought, i might be able to see the problem if i remove the indicator cluster etc. nope. what am i missing? it shouldn't be this hard to take a bloody steering wheel off surely!
kirk10 Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 leave the centre nut on a little then you sit in the car and pull the wheel while getting your mate to tap the nut with a hammer
tim Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 undo the nut and it should pull off but if its not been taken off fora few years it might be stuck, squrt some wd40 down there
Admin Vista Posted August 10, 2008 Admin Report Posted August 10, 2008 You've done all the right things it's probably just stuck as it's been on there so long. I remember having to be quite forceful with mine when I wanted to fit a replacement stalk switch. Try what's suggested above
evil knievel Posted August 10, 2008 Author Report Posted August 10, 2008 okay thanks for your quick responses, i'll keep you updated...
Admin Vista Posted August 10, 2008 Admin Report Posted August 10, 2008 okay thanks for your quick responses, i'll keep you updated... Make sure you post up the pic of the black eye you get when it comes off suddenly at high speed
evil knievel Posted August 10, 2008 Author Report Posted August 10, 2008 GOT THE BUGGER OFF nearly got a black eye, luckily i've got reflexes like a leopard...
omj624p Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Someone told me mine would be stuck on, so I removed the nut, and pulled as hard as possible!!! The resulting nose bleed says it all Now I always just loosen the nut, never take it off fully!
caprinerd Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 loosen the nut off and turn out a few turns and then with both hands thump the back of the steering whel both sides at the same time the wheel will eventualy pop out then remove the nut and the wheel will then come off when you replace it make sure the wheel is in the exact same position or you will drive with the wheel p**sed
