Fresh oil, new plugs, cap, rotor arm & a set of magnecor leads went on today.

 

by 12pm tomorrow we should know what it's running....

gutted really - 119bhp.

 

 

Sanspeed thinks that the compression ratio is way too low and chokes too small at only 30mm.

 

Spec is std bottom end (I hope to fook, not low comp tranny!)

Twin 45's

leccy ignition

magnecor leads

4-2-1

CCI system.

 

Not sure if the sierra head has lowered compression ratio or not?

Take the head off and let me skim 2mm off it that will sort it :thumbsup:

Hasn't his dyno been recalibrated recently?

 

It might be better than you think! - How does it feel to drive?

 

It will help to put some compression in it anyway, and not a huge job. :thumbsup:

 

Chin up, onwards and upwards - HP isn't as important as how it drives. :thumbsup:

I know mate but was just a bit disappointed really. It does pull really well but I know it should be around 145ish & that extra 25bhp might be the difference between running a high 15 & a mid 16. I think I shall take Gordy up on his offer once the car is parked up at the end of the OSFDC season. :thumbsup:

No it doesn't, the difference between High and low compression engines is achieved by utilising different pistons. My lump was originally a low compression transit engine with an injection head, not anymore :twisted:

I thought as much Scott. I'm now not so sure if it is an injection head. I could've sworn it was but I'm beginning to doubt my memory now (I had a spare head at the time mone was built that deffo had the teardrop inlets.) I'm now thinking it could possibly be a transit head or something coz Glyn has photo's of the block and it deffo has flat top pistons. :thumbsup:

Not giving up though. Will carry on as it is till it comes off the road around October when I'll take Gordy up on his offer to get it skimmed, although I'm doubtful that that alone, will find the lost 25 or so bhp :sad:

If it was a transit head then it's possible it had a different cam. Not sure that the piston crown is different on Transit ones I just think they're shorter, can anyone confirm for us both?

It did have a strange cam in it Scott before it was changed. It was stamped Hi-Torque but was gennie ford IIRC. Glyn actually undertook the build but obviously there is no way he could've noticed if the combustion chambers were 40 or so thou deeper than usual. IF it is a transit head, then good old Gordy will still be able to skim it & all should be ok. :?

Checking and setting the compression ratio is an extremely important part of an engine build especially so if the engine is built from parts. (As you now know !)

take 120 thou off the head and 180 thou off the block that'll sort the compression out won't be able to use a starter moter but it'll sort the compression out :lol::lol::lol:

I am not an expert (read know nothing :lol: ) about the pinto engine, but if the chamber is deeper then it will lead to a sharper short turn radius (if the inlet port is in the same place), this is a bad thing and impossible to recover head air flow if this is the case. You may be better to get a injetion head skimmed and flowed and then just swap your cam into this better "foundation" might be the difference beween a 16 and a 14! :wink::thumbsup:
