davreeve Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 The wife got pulled over for a 'routine' check last night on her way home from work, everything checked out ok i.e tax, mot, insurance, lights, tyres etc then the copper noticed her plates did not have the plate makers name on them.Instant 30 fine.Fair enough you may say but we think its a little harsh as the plates were on the car when she bought it 3 years ago and been through all its mots with them nothing said.Had we had known they would have been changed,a warning IMO would have been sufficent. Rant over
vibrating_Cake Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 thats a very "routine" check lol. if the copper was alright with you and you didnt get any points or anything its a fair point... word to all, get the word spread, its to stop your car being cloned and you getting pseeding tickets etc!!!!!
omj624p Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 A bit harsh indeed. In that case I dont think any of my cars have the correct plates
john_3.0s Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 presumably this only applies to vehicles made after a certain date? i dont think my dads 1938 morris has the makers name on the plates as ppl wernt concened with such nonsense back then. In reality how on eath does having a makers name on the plate stop car crime? bl00dy rediculous, feel sorry for your missus £30 fine what a waste of money no wonder there is such little respect for the police in this country these days.

numbnuts Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 copper noticed her plates did not have the plate makers name on them.Instant 30 fine Thats wrong. Theres something on the DVLA website that gives all the info and i'm sure it says that this i only from a certain recent date, not 3 years ago. I would find out and go to your local police station or write to the Central Ticket Office armed with your info. There may be a link on this site about it all. Good luck _________________ ultra sonja seeds
evildave Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 seems wrong that you can get a fine for that, it's not part of the MOT test either
antz Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 all numberplates after a certain date should have a number on teh bottom right corner that states it was made legitimately at a licenced number plate maker. it also has the numberplate makes ID code in it so it can be traced etc and many other thigns. this is required for an MOT otherwise the plates are illegal. i had to get a new rear plate for my volvo and told them i didnt want any numbers or shit on it. i just wnated a PLAIN numberplate with the reg on it but they wouldnt do it....then i saw a poster in an MOT tstaion that shows what to check for and even how the codes are broken down. its likely your missus plate didnt have this number on it so it would be rendered illegal. bit gay really.
Rick Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 cant be applicable to old fords though surely?
numbnuts Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 a couple of links. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf http://www.vrm-group.co.uk/FAQ.htm _________________ Mercedes 300D
john_3.0s Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 thats ludicrous! the last para in the first link above covers it but dosent say when it applies from. there are special rules for pre-73 cars but even they dont appear exempt from this nonsense. what a complete waste of everyone’s time and money. i wonder which idiot dreamt this one up. Anyone who honestly believes that this will stop car crime is living in a fantasy world.
numbnuts Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Just been told that the regulations came in 1st Jan' 2003 so it's possible to get done i guess. I expect this law only refers to cars registered on and after 1st Jan 03. _________________ history of us recessions
jamesg Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 that sounds vry harsh, that copper must have been a jobs worth
FredTransit Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 presumably this only applies to vehicles made after a certain date? i dont think my dads 1938 morris has the makers name on the plates as ppl wernt concened with such nonsense back then. Totally agree. davreeve what year was your wife's car registered? I have a feeling this won't apply to us anyway.
davreeve Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 davreeve what year was your wife's car registered? Car is a 1993 mr2,apparently pre 91 cars are ok.All very confusing though. The plate has to show a BS number and plate makers name i.e wilco, partco etc.I suppose its meant to make it harder for people to make plates up to clone cars .Still think 7 days to get them changed would have been fairer than a fine. Besides its going to cost her(me)around 20 pounds to change them anyway.
jamie k Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 this will sound really gay but if its a privet plate what aplies ? and if it was who the fook would know the cars age apart from the cops computers also if any one wanted to use plates for crime they could simply unscrew yours or a scrap yard or simply buy ( SHOW PLATES) from the internet and who could trace that . also back to the resession that we have folk are strugeling to keep jobs and travel with the price of fuell and need to worry about a pissy unreadable number on there plate
jamie k Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 whilste on the matter lets try and get a photo of a cop car with no bs numb theres got to be one send it to news of the world lol
NginEEr Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 there going on about in october changing the plates complety on the MOT and going really harsh on them and start to make numberplates that once applied as you take them off they shatter or sumik daft like tht
caprinerd Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 bit harsh m8 was it one of the locals that pulled her, hinchy, smithy, porky, or jack the hat, if it was im really suprised that they didnt just say get then changed, as these guys are ok and do what ever they can not to do paper work lol just kidding, really cant see the point in that even with tyres you get 14 days to change them so why not the plates
davreeve Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 was it one of the locals that pulled her, hinchy, smithy, porky, or jack the hat, Hi Rog,No it was the traffic car she,d not met before, the locals would not have been so petty IMO
john_3.0s Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 sadly IMHO traffic car officers are always smug jobsworths. Im starting to give up with this country, why cant people see this is all such a waste of time and money. I guess the point is if your going to do a bank job you nick a car and clone it by making some plates up yourself, fair enough. Now call me stupid but i dont imagine the lady concerned looked like she was off to turn over a post office over and surely issuing out fines like this does noting for public relations.
caprinerd Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 didnt think it would have been one of the locals, not that petty minded. But its a bit harsh mate, where about was it if you dont mind me asking just so`s i know where not to drive lol must have been a slow night m8
davreeve Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 where about was it if you dont mind me asking just so`s i know where not to drive lol Coming from Watton traffic lights up the Norwich road(near Jewsons).
caprinerd Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 must have been bored to be that petty
105eee Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 If these Ars--les were doing a proper job and not taking an easy target to get their stupid stats up, perhaps they might find some of the osf cars that have been stolen lately-- oohh silly me that don't get revenue
