Lukey48screamer Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Hmmm. . . Was wondering if anyone has used rattle cans to do an engine bay before and what they turned out like good or bad? Im thinking about going this route for my car but dont know how it will hold up against under bonnet heat etc... If anyone has got any pics or stories to tell please do whack'em up
john_3.0s Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 not tried it but you can get some pretty good rattle can paints now days. used plastikote on my struts and they came up beautifuly, lovley deep shine and pretty tough coverage too. what colour are you thinking? same as the body or black?
Lukey48screamer Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 Yeh gloss black to match the car... What process did you do them? Thanks for the tip mate
john_3.0s Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 i just took them back to bare, slung some etch primer on and did about 3 coats of the plastikote gloss blue. Dried quick too as it was a nice warm day.
hotrodholty Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 iv matt blacked mine, cleaned it with engine de-greaser, rubbed it down with some sand paper, quick wipe with some thinners and painted it, i thibk it looks a lot tidier in black, had no problems with heat or anything like that here mine buddy [/img]
SmokeEm Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Glyn X Pack did mine with Satin Black rattle cans. It was white previously and he tried to clean it up but it was bad so he did this for me This is obviously before the 4 branch & 45's
escort21 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Yeah remember that Smokem'..I helped out with that bay
SmokeEm Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 And a mighty fine job you both made of it too Tim
5hane Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 some ones matt blacked mine i would like to do it silver tbh, but for a cheap alternative (till a respray) i may do it in satin black unless silver would come out ok ? also couldnt u use hammerite?
4 door escort Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 so when you doing it then bro?
Twinkle Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 i rattle canned mine. i did use proper colour mixed ones from a bodyshop supplier before... during... after... and thats a straight from the can finish not been cut back or polished yet
4 door escort Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 pukka, looks like that came up really nicely, i've never had a problem with spray cans
Lukey48screamer Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 Ive been hard at it all day will try post some pics up later.. I hate finding what retards have bodged up... Its not a tidy job hes done but if I can make it look respectable I'l have to be happy with that. I never used to lift my bonnet to anyone... If only I could turn back time
Yeomans22 Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 before after didn't take the engine out to do it either, im going to spray it again soon, as the engine gotta come out now. Paul.
