stuartp Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 i'm looking at buying a particular mk1 escort that's in my (fairly low) price range only downside (apart from needing a complete respray but that's another story) to that one is it's registered july 73 - just half a year away from the free road tax wondering if there's any way to prove the vehicle was manufactured prior to january 1st 1973 the dvla details form says "date of registration or manufacture of the vehicle prior to 1 january 1973" surely it's very likely that the car was manufactured well before it was registered/ sold - could well have been 6 months it goes on to say "if you think the age shown is incorrect, you will need to produce a dating certificate from a vehicle enthusiasts club or evidence from the vehicle manufacturer" anyone got any experience of this?
Trevmk3 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 i think it may have a stamp on the vin plate or chassis that says when it came off the production line, i need to look at my cortina for the same thing
stuartp Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 i'll check that out when i take a look at the car tomorrow thanks
antz Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 if you ask TIM or VISTA on here they can both tell you how to find the month and year it was built
capriaddict Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Its part of the chassis number, in code of course if you post up the last 2 letters before the numbers start e.g. ****MY001234 then we can decode it form you and let you know
Admin Vista Posted September 19, 2008 Admin Report Posted September 19, 2008 Take a look here http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=54801 Th painful truth though is that Mk1 Escorts sold like hot cakes so your chances of a July registration being built before Dec 31st the previous year are slim to nil.
stuartp Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 i know it's a long shot it won't put me off buying it but would be lush to not pay road tax cheers for all the info guys
caprinerd Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 the uild date should be on the chassis number if you give the chassis number to the forum ( just the main letters not the number digits) im sure that one of the escort boffs could tell you the bild month and year

Not over 1549 - £120.00 Over 1549 - £185.00
